Yeah, I watched that show the other night. It was bizarre. I thought he was high...

Two names come to mind, Andy Kaufman and Sasha Baron Cohen, :-)

Peter, can you add this vid to my first post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_166229.html

it isn't as long as the youtube one...but shows he is wacko now just the same.

Hmmm.. that seemed a bit staged to me.

The guy is an actor, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was just done to get more attention for his movie.

He is a piece of work, but it shows Dave at his best. :-)

I thought it was all just an act. What's missing from the online version that is posted here is at the end of the interview just before breaking to commercial, Joaquin pulls off his sunglasses and turns to David Letterman and gives him a warm two-handed handshake. All of that quirky personality vanished instantly.

Playing Commodus in Gladiator... I hated that character so much. There are many other movies that I loved his character. He is an excellent actor and I think we were just being played on Letterman. :-)

“We’ve been on to Joaquin’s scam for weeks now,” said the Web site. “No doubt he’s shooting a mockumentary with Casey Affleck . . . pretending he’s quitting acting to become a rap star - even though his singing sucks - and showing how the media will fall for it.”

Possibly ... the guy has talent. "Will they fall for it".

There is no one better than Letterman to deliver. You could see a couple times Joaquin trying not to break his character.

One time I watch it and I think its a put on like someone else mentioned, Andy Kaufman.
Then I watch parts of it again and think he's whacked out or just tired of Letterman being a wise ass all the time..

I'm leaning toward it being an act. The sunglasses help hide the tattletale expression in the eyes.

I am going with an act.

Still no where near as good as the Kaufman & Jerry Lawler fued.

From another site:

"Ok, so now that it's aired, let me say that to me as an audience member, it was clear to me that it was an act. During commercial breaks he and Dave would laugh and talk cordially, and when it was over he took his glasses off, turned and waved at the audience and chuckled and had a MUCH different demeanor. It was to say "this was a joke guys! Thanks for playing along."
