General Discussion>DIVERS! Lobster Dive in Catalina for 11/15
mrreindeer 02:53 PM 10-23-2008
A buddy of mine is putting together a small charter for Saturday, November 15th. Leave San Pedro, California @ around 4pm - head to Catalina Island to do 3 night dives searching for lobster. Be back in Pedro around 1am.

Any interest? Cost should be about $180, includes air, food & non-alcoholic beverages. You can BYOB.

Boat is a convertible type with an indoor salon, downstairs cabins & a bathroom, very comfortable, has stereo, t.v. Trip over to Catalina takes a little over an hour.

We have room for about two more....

:-):-)

I would love to do this, but I havent dove in about 5 years. Was going to get my buddy to fly out while I was in Bakerfield so we could go. He hates lobster so that would have been more for me. Have fun!!!

I have a feeling you and I are going to get along great. I love diving, especially for bugs (damn the cold though). I'd love to go this weekend but I'm actually headed to Belize for a few days.

You, Geoff, SUCK (more than I originally thought, TROJAN)! :-):-)

Take me with you! Man, oh man, I'm jealous. I really need another break. My wife & I hit Belize for the first time in March and it was incredible....dare I say it was unBELIZEable.

Have you ever been? We did 5 nights up in the jungle at Blancaneaux Lodge and 6 nights over in Ambergris Caye (stayed at Matachica). Some highlights: we hit Caracol (Mayan ruin) by the lodge in the jungle, did the Zipline/Cave Tubing at Jaguar Paw; I dove the Blue Hole and we took a daysail to Hol Chan / Caye Caulker.

Let me know if I can give you any details/suggestions; feel free to PM me and have a GREAT time!

Lookin' forward to diving with you sometime.

Argh wrong side of the country!

While i'm not a big lobster eater I'd love to dive for them.

Please get some pictures and have a great safe time!

This sounds awesome. Never been diving except my Naui cert dive. Although the instructor never gave me my card.

Thanks! One of my buddies may have a camera or bring his video so I'll keep ya posted! (camera on my Christmas list this year!)

Well, the L.A. fires (one of which was 1/2 mile from my home: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...-palos-ve.html) chased me to the only safe haven there was, out on the open water.

Okay, that's my buddy's catch. I caught one little bugger but he was too small; I had to let him go.

4 of 5 of us.

You can see what affect the fires have had on the air. Makes for one helluva an interesting & beautiful sunset. While Catalina is a good 30 miles off the coast of L.A., it was snowing ash as we dove.

This girl wasn't there:

5 total legal lobsters caught by 2 of the 5 divers.

I'm enjoying a beer and a RP Vintage 1990, thanks to Cigary!

Thanks! Weather was, obviously, amazing! Probably 72 - 75. Water temp was 64 at surface. A bit colder at 91 feet down! My buddy who picked the date must have known, two months out, that Nov. 15 would be amazing. Water was still like glass, virtually no wind. It was incredible!

Come on Bao, we were hungry ok? Haven't you heard of lobster sushi? Claws are the best part raw. And we're hardcore, we nab 'em, chew off the claws, then stick 'em in our bags to bring to the surface.

For some reason, Pacific lobsters have no hands (claws). Makes catching them a whole lot easier!
