The old newsletter! Bourbon Edition! :-)

QT and I went to a place with a nice bourbon list on Saturday, had a pour of their EC Private Barrel and some Weller Single Barrel too.

Nice pours all around! The orange guy is the only Weller (outside of the compass one) that I haven't tried, I paid $20 for a pour of CYPB once and thought it was worth about half that

I'm sure the Weller SiBs are inconsistent, Ben, though this is the first I've tried. I wouldn't pay more than MSRP for a bottle.

Got the call that the Blantons Gold barrel was in, I think they said there were only two barrels allocated to Colorado this year, likely less than the amount Specs got but I'll take it. By this time next year Blantons Gold picks will be common and everybody will be fighting over Weller 12 picks :-)

I got the Gold pick from Binny's, but it's local trade bait for me, Ben. Only Blanton's I'm into drinking is the SFTB. Hope your pick is delicious though! :-)

Stopped by my local B&M. The owner is like, “Hey, you want one of these?” “Umm, yes please”.

So a friend of mine dropped off a bottle of Coopers’ Craft 100 yesterday. A friend of his said it reminds him of EHT SB. I did a side by side comparison and sure enough they are very similar in flavor profile. The finish of the EHT is better, more complex. But if you want a budget EHT, give this one a shot.

Nice pickups all around! I've never run across one of those OF ryes, I haven't gone out of my way for one since I'm usually a little iffy on Old Forester products but would definitely pick one up if I had the chance, I've heard they are delicious

I have a video call on Sunday to taste the final matchup of the ECBP bracket and find out the results, I used what was left of the ones that didn't make it to the end to go back and rank them all so soon I'll know which ones I'm looking for extra backups of and which need to be sold to fund that :-)

Steph and I are at my folks' in Indianapolis for the eclipse. We went by Total Wine to see what was interesting. I grabbed a bottle of Ezra Brooks CS, Still Austin CS (which I've never had but heard good things about) and another OGD 114 simply because it was cheaper than I can get on my local AF base. I also grabbed a Knappogue Castle 12-year Old Single Malt, but that's for a different discussion. :-)

Love to hear your thoughts on the Still Austin. The Knappogue as well hah. I’ve been digging Red Breast of late when not dive bombing on Bookers.

This Bookers Mighty Fine Batch is my new fad Drink du jour. The Viaje Lime was good as well. Bit of finished my taxes celebration.

The ECBP March Madness tournament has come to an end. Overall my three favorites in order were C919, B519 and A120, but using the full group of 12 the overall favorite was A119 followed by C919 and A120 (B519 came in 5th with the group). My least favorite were A122, A123 and B521 while the group had A123, A121 and B521 on the bottom.

I went into this whole thing thinking C919 and A120 were my favorites but the majority of the people expected B520 to come out on top, it ended up 4th from the bottom. Funny enough I tried to avoid guessing batches but for one I wrote down "B520?" and it ended up being that one, but compared to other batches it isn't as rounded. That was the first barrel proof bourbon I tried that made things click and put the grease on the slope so it'll always be a winner to me :-)

Very cool, Ben, I wish I had had bigger samples and could have really done some serious blind comparisons. Not surprised C919 was near the top. Very surprised that B520 was near the bottom, and that A119 wasn't.

Very cool Ben. Fun to be able to do a blind test. Never know how things will turn out.

Can be tough as taste for myself changes on my mood, time of day, and what I have eaten that day. But it’s all in the experience :-)
