Sports>Hockey Sim needs GMs

Hey there NHL fans, if anyone is interested, there is a new NHL sim league starting up. It is run by a good GM from a sim football league I've been in for 10 years, and he needs some active, knowledgable and friendly (mostly) GMs for the league. We have around 15 I think, and will have 24 teams to start, real NHL teams, but cut down to keep the talent pool more concentrated.

You'll pick a team you like, depending on who is spoken for, and when we're set to go we'll draft from scratch, here's the site http://thedewdneys.com/nfhl.html it's in the very early stages but you can read a little about it. just PM me if you're interested and I can try to answer your questions, and pass on the commish's info (it's free btw)

so let me know if you're interested. you can see which teams are spoken for, but don't worry. You'll be drafting your own roster

Will this be a live draft or an auto draft? And will it use statistics starting with when the sim league begins?

Live draft, and each season will be based upon previous year's stats

my understanding is all the rosters will be dumped into a big pool and the drafting will be done out of that, so it will be rather in depth

Yeah, I just don't have time with my work schedule (evening shift) to participate in a live draft. Sounded like fun though.

Sorry, I was half-tempted to participate (done a few fantasy hockey leagues), but the depth of knowledge needed for this league seems a bit outta my range. Tempting though with the lull between sports seasons.

Good luck with the league. I'll probably lurk, watch, and learn. Maybe next season.

oh, the draft won't be in one day

it'll take a couple/few weeks in all likelihood

and I don't have a great deal of hockey knowledge these days, not like in high school. I'm mostly winging it, it's not as if money is involved

ok, let me start at the beginning.

It's a simulation league (as opposed to fantasy), so each team is drafted from scratch (the entire roster) from a pool of all NHLers (with 24 teams, so lots of talent). There are fancy pants programs out there dedicated to realistic simulation of games based on statistical analysis from the previous season.

So, we would spend a couple weeks drafting all... what, 22 roster spots? (I think that's right), and then once the season starts, you play a full season (not sure how many games will be played given the reduced league size) in which the games are simulated by the software. Your player performances are based on/reflect what the did the previous year in real life.

So this upcoming season for the sim league, would be based upon player performances from the 07-08 season. So this year's stats need to be considered for future reasons, but for this first season, last year's NHL stats will be what matter.

You, as the team owner, would act as GM (you can draft, trade, sign, etc) and coach (you set the line up, preferences on style of play etc).

Does that make sense? :-)

if anyone is interested email Mark at OneManArmy@rogers.com he's the commish, and he, obviously, knows more about the details than I do. He'd be happy to answer your questions. He's a good guy who loves sports and smokes cigars (casually, but still does)
