I have been planning on building a wood humidor out of some lovely walnut I have in my shop, but noticed in a lot of humidor building videos/guides, they use plywood for the top and bottom. Do I need to use plywood there, or can I use walnut there as well? I presume that I need to seal the walnut on the inside anyway before adding the Spanish cedar, right?

I once bought a lovely solid wood humidor from an artisan. Really pretty, with a land scape hand-painted on top. Within a few months, the top had visibly warped and it was useless as a humidor. If you think about it, trying to maintain a moist environment in a wooden box is questionable. The only wooden humidor I ever had any luck with was a cheap Chinese one made of veneered particle board.

If I was going to build my own wood cigar storage, I’d build a box that I could put plastic box(es) inside of.
