All Cigar Discussion>About to make order....How does it look?
WildBlueSooner 01:38 PM 02-19-2009
Greetings. I am new, although I have smoked cigars off and on with friends throughout the years. I have decided to take the dive. Just bought a 400ct humidor and beads from heartfelt. I am going to make my first purchase of 5ers today. Here is what I have in my cart but I wanted to get some feedback first before I committed.

1x $26.85 - Montecristo White Rothschilde 5 Pack
1x FREE - Oliva Serie G Double Robusto 5 Pack
1x FREE - Oliva Serie G Maduro Perfecto 5 Pack
1x $31.50 - Padron 6000 5 Pack
1x $21.99 - Perdomo Lot 23 Churchill 5 Pack
1x $33.99 - Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Toro 5 Pack
1x $22.99 - Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Petit Corona 5 Pack
1x $31.99 - Romeo Y Julieta Aniversario Robusto 5 Pack

My first 40 cigars. Does this look good? Any suggestions? Thanks a lot and I look forward to getting to know you all and your cigars :-)

You have a nice variety of cigars there. Most are quite good imo :-)

Some very nice choices in their. I personally am a big fan of the RP vintage series, and the padron maduros. Plus those oliva serie G's that you are getting free are very very good sticks!

A good selection for a first purchase. I have bought multiples of all those cigars at some point in my cigar smoking career. As for the prices, I can't be specific since I haven't bought any of those brands in some time but it looks okay to me after a cursory glance.

You might want to consider the Perdomo Slow-Aged Lot 826 as an alternative to the 23s. Not that the 23s are bad, I just think the 826s are a great smoke.

One thing I thought about was switching one of the RP Vintage to RP Sungrown. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Will it give me more variety?

The Vintage 90 and 92 are similar, yeah.

Personally I would stick with the both of the Vintage. I don't think the Sungrown is very good at all.

If you do swap one, would swap out the 90 Toro's. If you are wanting to try some more RP, go with the Edge Corojo and the Decade, both of those are a much better smoke than the Sungrown.

You can't go wrong with either one but I would go with the 90 because I like the toros.

See, here's the thing. I prefer the 90 over the 92. :-)
But neither of us knows your tastes, so you might prefer one or the other, or hate both of them.
If you're going to swap one out, I'd try something from a different brand for more variety, like 5 Vegas or CAO. Or find a theme-based 5er, like all maduro, or all toro size.

Where are you buying from?

I wanna get some olivia's for free. :-)

You might want to get a 5'er of the Don Pepin Garcia Serie JJ Maduros. They are awesome! :-)

I would suggest taking out the 1990s since you are getting the 92s and see if you can get some Fuente 8-5-8 maduros for the same price or cheaper...or Don Pepin Garcia blue labels.

I'd keep everything on your list AND try to pick up what some others here have suggested. It's a steep slope my friend and the only way to reach bottom is head first and 90MPH. :-):-)

Enjoy the ride!

P.s.
Joking aside you've made some great first choices and the ones you don't pick up this go round will give you something to look forward to on the next purchase.

You know, if you go to cigarbid.com, you can probably pick up a lot more variety for your money. :-)

Looks good. You'll get differing opinions- as many as there are different B and SOTLs here. But- I'd say go with what you got this time, and get different sticks next time.

OK...I am switching the 90s for CAO Cx2 Toro 5 Pack $28.99. This will give me one more brand to try. And don't worry everyone...this is just the first step in my endeavor. I am checking cigarbid right as we speak. Thanks for everyone's input. I truly appreciate it.
