Hi,
From all the shorter smokes I've tried I enjoy the Hemingway short story very much. I find it perfect for my walk in the am. I walk over three miles and I have enough time to walk with out smoking after I'm done smoking.
My question is, if you smoke it enough to know is there a better price then $121.xx for a box?
I did see cigar.com has imitations or what ever they call it for 10 for $24.95 but I wouldn't think its close. I never tried them.
What else do you think I should try if I like the short story?
Same length and strength wise? That I can buy one and try locally. That's not to pricy. So if I decide to order a box I'll like the price.

There is an Ashton VSG a little bigger and more punch.
My favorite shortie is however a Trinidad Reyes - a cc

H Upmann Half Corona. You won't find one locally, but I believe it'll satisfy the other aspects of your itch. PM me an addee and I'll send you some to try and see. Size, profile and price should appeal

I don't see how the VSG is any where near the SS in flavor or price

I think the Oliva Special G is similar (3.75 x 48 perfecto shape). I usually smoke the maduro version but I found the Cameroon wrapper version to be similar in strength to a Short Story natural. They are not too hard to find so it might be worth trying a 5 pack or picking up a couple at your B&M.

From one Dave to another, this sounds like exactly what I need for my walks home from work. Thanks for the tip.

I like Petite Corona's when I want a short (Hemingway Short-Story-Sized) smoke. Most PC's last me about 40-45 minutes. The HU Half Corona lasts me about 30-35 minutes.
I would suggest two things -- contact Dave for an HUHC sample and then look around for some PC samplers from all the various Internet sites and give them a try.

The taste is a little different but I am a fan of the MUWAT Bait Fish. They last me around 30-45 mins and are pretty cheap if you get them from an auction site.

You can't really go wrong with anything from the Fuente line. Try the Petit Coronas: 5x38. $96 bucks at CI.

This, not the same but very close, and much more economical

While I agree the Baitfish are good for what they are, I would say they are
vastly different in taste from the SS, and not even in the same league.

You can get the AF Short Story from cigarsatyourprice.com for $99. Add 7.95 for shipping for a grand total of $106.95.

Tampa Sweethearts. The smallest size, I forget what it is. Same tobacco, apprentice rollers.

WTG Dave. Another great smaller smoke is the tatuaje petite cazadores. Different profile, but good good nonetheless. You can find them at $170ish for a 50 ct box

I went looking. Scott, are you talking about the Tampa Sweethearts No 32? They're 4" / 32 gauge, short filler. Judging by the photo they look pretty rough, but they're also only $27.95 for a bundle of 25! Now
those are bargain quick smokes! Are those the ones made with Hemingway tobacco?

They are fantastic, Dave.
It used to be posted on the site that "the cigars are made from the same tobacco by apprentice rollers, blah, blah, blah..."
I've smoked gazillions, and they are fantastic.
Whether they still are made from the same tobacco, I can't tell you. I can't see why it would have changed, but they removed that info from the site a few years ago.
I'll bet that when you try them, you'll find that it's true.

In my view (not worth much) short stories are well worth going deep on. Amazing smoke and age well. I mostly smoke CCs but would never pass up a short story.

i simply adore the little crescent boxes they come in!
:-)
the prices on this side of the St. Laurent is a tad outrageous, though. I mean, $17 for a single!?!
I've never personally tried the naturals before. but the maduros have been gobpunchingly gorgeous!
