As some of you guys know I'm trying to get on to the local sheriffs dept. Icehog was kind enough to send me the police physical standards for Illinois. Since the standards for the police force is higher than that for the sheriffs, I figured that I'm golden as long as I can match up to the higher standard. The mile and a half run time that I had to reach for my age group is 15 minutes and 24 seconds. This morning I ran it in 15 minutes and 19 seconds. I'm hoping that the rest of it is all down hill from here. Man I'm relieved that I reached it.

Based on your avatar, that's a pretty good time. You look like a huge fat slob. And with that, I am applying TWO CA stickers to my car.

Good Luck to you!
The ironic thing is that this is for the DOC arm of the sheriffs department. I will be (drum roll please) an inmate guarding inmates.

The avatar is of me from the club stogie days before the gastric bypass surgery.
:-) I would suggest sticking a "C" bill to your bumper also.

Most of the positions are for the prison. They have a large facility in Joliet so some could theoretically be split up between the prison, jail, courtrooms, juvenile, and the women's facility.

I received good news and bad news today. The bad news is that there were 700 applicants for around 80 to 100 positions. I guesstimated around 500 (quite a bit more than I thought).
The good news: A couple of sheriffs deputies in the Joliet office told me that out of the 700 applicants over 500 of them failed the written test (I passed). If this is true (and I have reason to believe it is) this greatly improves my odds. I was so happy I barely could contain my self. I have to stay calm and focus on the tasks ahead of me.
