Accessory Discussion / Reviews>Chancellor Humidor, Difference?
Solafide 02:44 PM 07-09-2015
Hi everyone, I am going to be buying a humidor, and get back into cigars after a long hiatus. I have ordered from both of these vendors before, and I am curious is there a difference other than such a significance in price?

So, there isn't two different versions or a knockoff or anything like that?

My friend, you are very lucky to have come to CA because it is full of so much expertise and people willing to give an opinion. But, how the heck can we really answer your question? The pictures on the internet look about the same. The model # is similar. Call them and ask them who their manufacturer is.

My buddy Scott (sofaman) has one.
Leaked like a sieve.
Here's what it took to make it seaworthy.

Same company distributes the two. I have their catalog here somewhere, I used to buy lots of their stuff. Oh, geeze, still won't come to me. I have oriental traders stuck in my head and that certainly isn't it. Maybe it'll come to me. :-)

Just buy and use a cooler... save your $ for cigars.
I had four humi's at one point, got rid of all but one which I don't use.
Two coolers hold all my cigars now.

They are both well known online humidor sellers; not smoke & mirror operations.

DMK speaks the truth! Get a cooler and some beads.

Well, if this place is like how you describe it, than what better group to ask such a question? :-)
Maybe someone here has bough one or other, or knows the stores better. Whenever I buy something, the person who is making the sale is the last person I go to for information about it. I know some humidors in the past were the same design and style but ended up being picked up by different manufactures and the quality declined.

All I needed was to see your friends thread, no thanks, awesome work on his part. I am no carpenter.

I know the coolidor is the best bang for your buck, but just have no interest in one, even when I had a pretty decent stock of stogies.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Most glass front/top humi's leak like a sieve. Get a solid box or a cooler. If its appearance you are looking for then just like Greg said Ed (Waxing Moon) is tough to beat. If its just performance then IGLOO gets my vote.

Hi Sola,
I know I'm a bit late but since I have one, I thought I'd chime in. New here as well but here goes.
Looks like they are identical to me, just different branding or marketing. Mine is the Chancellor for cheaphumi. If I had read the reviews on here I'd have passed but I'm glad I didn't. Yes, it's not a nice custom box. It's laminated and cheap, but....

It looks decent, it is large, and relatively inexpensive and has tempered glass and most of all, it holds humidity very well right out of the box. The hygrometer is junk (replaced it), the handles are cheap and you can see some joints on the interior are not great. The spanish cedar lining is paper thin. But, the shelves are heavy cedar and there are many dividers as well.

The unit holds humidity very well with a Cigar Oasis Excel and about 160 cigars (and growing fast) in there. It only comes on every 20-30 minutes for about 5 seconds! The lid passes the drop test nicely. I like the glass top (keep it away from lots of light). It's a cheap way to get 300 cigars taken care of, but you mileage may vary. Maybe I got lucky?

Regards,
John in Md
