All Cigar Discussion>Do you tag your cigars?

I put a band on all my incoming bomb sticks and trade sticks. Knowing who I got the stick from makes it a bit more of an enjoyable smoke for me. I'd as soon have a bag of homemade cookies as a store bought MP3 player at Christmas. Not that the purchased gift isn't from the heart, but the cookies took extra time and effort - and time cannot be replaced. I hope this came out the way I ment it...

I've recently started a notepad file. In it I identify who and what was sent.

Yep :-)

Image

Just the ones I buy.

Name on top line.

Auction winnings have a 4 digit code preceded by the auction site.
(Store purchases have just the store name)

Then the date purchased.

Then all of this information is entered into an Excel spreadsheet with the price paid.

:-) :-) :-)

I don't tag all my sticks. But I do date my Opus because I like to know how much time I get on them. I prefer them with age for the most part. I tag the Box Codes on all my Cuban cigar singles once they leave their box and hit the desktop.

Nope. But I may start doing so with special sticks or boxes.

I have no idea which humidors any of my cigars are in except my CC's. Every time I open a humidor, it's like Christmas.

stearns bombed me with home made cookies once. That was awesome! Hey Ben, Mike needs cookies! PM me for his address.

As for the labels I did when I first got here. Now I can keep track just by where they are in the humidor.

Either the box is dated or I will attach just a plain small white label with the month and year I got it. Stuff not in cello, I will put a paper band on it to mark the year, only if relevant to that type of cigar though:-)

I tried at first to keep up with names and where I got it, but that only lasted a month I think. I figure I am ahead of the game doing what I do now.

I have an Excel sheet which lists all my sticks (<100 count) and where I got them. It helps to know who to thank for a great smoke, especially since I'm getting to try so many that are new to me.

When I get a box or bundle in it usually will cover a couple of rows in the humi whereby I put small note on top of that row that tells me the date it was put in.

I stole Chas' idea - I had been just writing on labels on the back of the cigar, but the printed address label looks so much better (considering I am obsessive compulsive about such things...)

I tag Habanos, with the box codes. Only singles though. :-)

I looked at some of the printed lablers - any where from ~$25 on up from what I found. I can buy a lot of smokes for that money. I buy the blank ones from either cigarmony or heartfelt (can't remember), wrap and tape. The sticky stuff is weak.

I try to at least do the ones that are gifted to me but other than that I can't seem to apply the effort. Although I want to.
