I'm wlling to do a split Xman.
I'm new to roasting (haven't even invested in one) but I have an airproof Jar that I can store the beans in until i get the proper equipment. We're talking 15.00 each including shipping right?

How much coffee will that yield?

I suppose that depends on how you brew. A full pot, 32 oz. French Press takes 1.8 oz of coffee. So... About 16 cups?

It also depends how strong you like your coffee.
When i try a new bean i shoot for a medium brew the 1st time,
then i go from there.

True. I think there are a number of variables that would affect how much brewed coffee you will end up with.

about 1/3 of the coffee I roast goes to waste.

I can't ever grind exactly enough to perfectly fill the portafilter and refuse to leave ground beans for later.

Sad really.....:-)

You use a digital scale? I get the perfect amount of coffee every time.

Nope. I just turn the grinder on for a few seconds, wait for one of the vanes to fill with grinds, thwack a few times intil I get a mound in the portafilter, then sweep across to level it out.

From there, the tamp is the final stage.

I notice about 1/3 of a dose in the sink from my leveling.

Maybe the timer on the Mazzer is a good thing, but I have a Macap and there's no timer. Probably an even trade as the Mazzer leaves more in the bottom than the Macap anyway.

I don't stress about the little bit of waste, but would probably be bummed if someone weighed it all year and showed me what I throw away.

I've had real jbm coffee several times from reputable sources in NYC at a high cost, however whatever my local stop and shops jbm blend is tastes pretty good. No where near the same taste but still a certain similar smoothness to it.

Never blown away by JBM or Kona. They are mild and smooth and good, but not for me. I like full flavored coffee.
Ethiopia Idido Misty Valley blew me away
