In a large auto filling humidifier (one used to humidify a ~10,000 cigar humidor) is there a way to halt or slow the development of slime/mold?

Take the humidifier out, clean it thoroughly with bleach solution -- especially the water tank. Make sure that you clean the housing well too -- running the bleach solution though all the tubes/nooks/crannies, etc. If the humidifier uses wicks -- get a new wick too.

If you're talking about algae (pond scum), it needs light to survive. So, don't give it any...

Cleaning with bleach has been covered. I might try a UV light on the water reservoir , should kill any nasties that grow into scum.

Thank you very much for your responses. I'm assuming that bleach tablets or slow release bleach substances wouldn't be a good idea, though, as the bleach would end up being dispersed into the air when the machine turns on, yeah? Not so good for the cigars, I'd imagine.
