All Cigar Discussion>6x60s - are you a fan?
omowasu 09:01 PM 10-27-2012
Cigar Aficionado dedicated a review section to the 6x60 size cigar this month, stating that "The 6 inch by 60 ring gauge cigar has become so prominent in the cigar industry that we decided to give it its own category", and "Cigar manufacturers often report that the 6 by 60 size is their best seller(...)".

Cigar Aficionado rated the Q D'Etat by Quesada Howitzer, Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 The Sixty, and Oliva Serie V Double Toro in the top 3 6x60 cigars. No cigars of Cuban origin were mentioned, probably because there arent any 6x60 Havanas that Im aware of.

So, are you a fan of the 6x60RG? Or would you not be caught dead with one of these behemoths?

Personally, they arent for me - they take up too much humi space, take too long to smoke, and in my opinion emphasize quantity over quality of tobaccos. Thoughts?

MUWAT and Undercrown Gordos are some of my favorites. Big La Sirena is awesome.

I picked up a couple 60RG San Christabol Elegancia's to try in this size. They are already one of my favorite smokes, so I figured I would't be out if I didn't care for them. Well I really did not care for the larger size, I'll finish the three I got but won't get any more.

I really really dislike jaw breakers. Just not a comfortable/enjoyable smoke for me.:-)

I like the 60 rg. It doesn't need to be 6. 4.5 or better works for me.

Smoked a couple.Ghurkas that were in that league. at my pace right around a 2.5hour smoke :s enjoyed it for sure. but not comfortable or practical enough for an everyday smoke. when i get a cabinet humi ill stock a case or two. but my desktop doesnt have the space and my schedule doesnt have the time.for what i get out of them.

I really enjoy the Tatuaje Gran Cojonu which has been out for a while - well before the recent craze/trend.

I have a couple of other Pepin's in the 6x60 size but have not tried they yet.

I like some 6x60 and some are well and truly awful (MUWAT was lousy I thought). I have no problem smoking a 6x60 and I wouldn't consider them "Jawbreakers" or "Behemoths", since they aren't uncomfortable for me to smoke at all, but I don't seek them out either.

I think it has more to do with the blend, if you take a robusto cigar and shove some more filler into it to make it a 6X60 it's going to be pretty hit or miss, it seems pretty obvious that some blends would be suited to that size and some wouldn't. I'd like to believe that manufacturers have more integrity than to inflate an existing blend to a 6x60 size and put it on the shelves just because they know it will sell. It probably isn't reality, but I like to think nice things sometimes.

I'm not a fan of 60 rings regardless of length. I have only smoked 1- 6 X 60 and it was a Diesel Unlimited I was gifted. While it tasted good it was still a bit awkward to smoke.

I can deal with NUBs but 60RG for 6 inches is just too much for me. Thinking of trying the 5 inch MUWAT...

Somehow I've been deemed the 6x60 reviewer over at halfwheel, and they've all been pretty terrible except the (NC) La Gloria Cubana Gorda Gorda. I actually really enjoyed it. My usually complaint with 6x60's is that the fact the filler/wrapper ratio is so out of wack that they're usually bland. This is of course besides the fact they're jawbreakers - however the LGC Gorda Gorda was pretty dang good.

I tend to draw the line at 54 RG, even then I would prefer it to be torp at that size.

As others have said... If you get the right blend a 6x60 can be quite nice IMHO... I don't go and buy them by the bundle... but having a few around is pretty nice when you have a lot of time on your hands... I like a 6x60 when I play golf or go camping...

Not a fan at all of anything with that big of ring gauge. I understand that people like different things I just wish all these large ring gauges weren't coming (seemingly) at the expense of the smaller ones. Even though Habanos SA doesn't have a 60 RG cigar even they have been introducing more large ring gauge cigars and dropping the smaller ones.

I used to smoke them exclusively, but smoke many more toro's and robusto's these days. 6x60's take too much time to smoke.
