More MMA "news":

Fedor Emelianenko, the man most agree is the world’s best heavyweight, returns to action Saturday in Hoffman Estates, Ill., against the less experienced but still dangerous Brett Rogers.

The duel is the main event of Strikeforce/M-1 Global’s debut on CBS. Fedor is a fierce striker and an even deadlier submission player. He’s a resounding favorite at the sportsbooks and he should be.

While Rogers is not as big an underdog as James “Buster” Douglas was on Feb. 11, 1990, when he shocked the world with his dramatic 10th-round knockout of then-invincible Mike Tyson, a Rogers win would send similar shockwaves throughout the MMA world nevertheless.

So who will win? Sherdog.com caught up with dozens of professional fighters and trainers from the MMA community to gauge their opinions.

Chael Sonnen: Two fatties swinging like bums. Yawn, stretch, back to sleep.

What an idiot.

Report: Mirko Cro Cop vs Ben Rothwell being considered for UFC 111

Famed heavyweight striker Mirko Filipovic (25-7-2) is reportedly considering a return to the Octagon to face fellow MMA transplant Ben Rothwell (30-7) at UFC 111, tentatively scheduled for the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia, on Feb. 21 according to Sherdog.com.

GSP ready to defend UFC Tittle against Hardy-Swick

When Dan (The Outlaw) Hardy takes on Mike (Quick) Swick next week at UFC 105 in Manchester, England, the most interested observer cageside will be Canadian Georges St. Pierre.

"Apparently I will probably fight the winner of this fight so I'm going to be watching it very carefully," St. Pierre told The Canadian Press.

The welterweight champion from Montreal has recovered from the abductor muscle tear - in three places - that he sustained in beating Thiago Alves at UFC 100 in July.

"My injury is 100 per cent now, I'm ready to go. I'm waiting to see what's going to happen next with the UFC. . . . I look forward to fighting again and I can't wait to see what's going to happen between Swick and Hardy," he added.

St. Pierre is more concerned that the winner of Hardy-Swick might leave the cage injured Nov. 14.

"Maybe one of these guys is going to break a hand. We don't know. it's mixed martial arts. it's a brutal sport. We don't know what's going to happen. Hopefully the winner of the fight is going to be 100 per cent and we'll be able to do it early next year."

Tito Ortiz wants Chuck Liddell badly, again?

In an era in which Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva are openly petitioning management for heavyweight fights, the idea of Tito Ortiz trying to chip away at the ego of Chuck Liddell should underwhelm you like nothing else.

"I think if I call him out enough times, I think he'll be a man and step up," Ortiz told MMAWeekly. "Why wouldn't he? That's a huge fight and a big payday for him. It will be good."

Why wouldn't he? Because Liddell, unlike Ortiz, had a gamesman's attitude toward the sport: Taking bouts that risked his guaranteed title bids, never turning down a fight and generally looking happy to be in there. He never headhunted graying fighters, something Ortiz does with alarming regularity.

After being slaughtered twice by Liddell, Ortiz has seen him softened up on successive occasions by Rashad Evans and Mauricio Rua. If you can't beat a fresh Liddell -- and he clearly could not -- then the next best thing must be to wait for an encouragingly bad MRI scan to come in before pursuing a third fight. Picking at a carcass doesn't flatter him.

Talk about yesterday's news. :-)

More talk about Renzo Gracie coming to UFC

Well-known Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert Renzo Gracie could be the latest member of the legendary Gracie family to grace the Octagon.

UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta hinted on his official twitter account that the promotion is in negotiations to acquire Renzo Gracie's services.

When a fan tweeted a request to Fertitta saying, "bring Renzo to the octagon asap!!!", the UFC co-owner replied, "We are workin on it!"

November is fight month. 4 major promotions within 2 weeks of eachother. Sengoku 11 starts early Saturday morning (I think 1am). At first I wasn't too excited about the card but after a closer look I like it now. Of course Strikforce Saturday night, I just noticed a Carlos Gracie Jr blackbelt is on the prelim card making his 2nd mma bout. UFC 105 next Saturday looks lack luster but hey its free. And 106 the week after that which has Lil Nog making his UFC debut against up comer Luiz Caine.
I was curious, who do you guys like in the Jason Miller/Jake Shields fight. Miller is almost a heavy underdog, but I thought he has performed great lately.

The CBS card is stacked. AND FREE! I usually do not agree with these type of statements, but I'm making one; This free card will top just about any card the UFC *is willing to put together for PPV.

I'll take:
Fedor
Miller
Mousasi
Wedum

And if the UFC lets Hendo go they are retard. yes, I'm taking immature jabs.

*is willing: They could but choose not to.

Dan Henderson Moves To Strikeforce

Former PRIDE title-holder and UFC middleweight contender has signed and moved to Strikeforce.

This has been reported already in various MMA websites and has been confirmed by UFC President Dana White.

Dana White says, "I guarantee you 1,000 percent that Dan Henderson is signed by Strikeforce. Dan and I have been friends and we will continue to be friends, but it just didn’t work out and he went to Strikeforce."

However, many other reports are taking the statement of Dana White with a grain of salt, saying that they'll be waiting for the official announcement from Dan Henderson himself before they can believe the news.

SF is getting stronger by the day.

UFC champ St. Pierre lands Under Armour endorsement

On Thursday, the French-Canadian welterweight champion inked a deal with Under Armour, becoming the first mixed martial artist to sign a major endorsement deal with a mainstream sports apparel company. The multi-year agreement makes St. Pierre the face -- and body -- of Under Armour's underwear line, a relationship that kicks off with an extensive media campaign this holiday season.

My thoughts on Strikeforce:

Miller surprised me, but I haven't really seen him fight. He was quite game and came close to finishing Shields. Shields controlled the fight for the most part, but I never thought he had Miller in any danger.

Bigfoot had a great first round, what happened? I was thinking he must have got hurt, maybe broke a hand or something, or was he just gassed?

Gehard is pretty awesome. I would really like to see him in the UFC. Soku was the most well rounded that I've ever seen him.

Brett did better than most in the last 3 years, but Fedor still rules supreme. A smart fight who is fast and strong on his feet and great on the ground.

I would have liked to seen the women's fight, but I'll have to wait for the posted vids.

Overall, the televised card was very good, especially for being free.:-)

Despite what Dana tries to tell everyone, the UFC is not THE premier mma company out there. The 185'ers are probably the best though. There is nobody in the UFC that could compete with Fedor right now. The hvwt. division in UFC is not that great. I am a huge fan of Lesnar but I think he would end up just like like Rogers. Mainly because of inexperience. Give Lesnar 5-7 more fights then it could be a contest. Fedor has defeated the best in the world time and time again in Pride when the hvwt. division was obviously stacked like no time in history.

Here is a list of who I think are the best heavy's in each company. I think it's pretty much a wash.

UFC heavy's:
Brock Lesnar
NOG (beaten by Fedor)
Junior Dos Santos
Shane Carwin
Cain Velasquez
Cheick Kongo

SF-M-1 Global heavy's:
Fedor Emelianenko
Brett Rogers
Alistair Overeem
Fabricio Werdum
Bobby Lashley
Daniel Cormier
Antonio Silva

When it comes to great mma promotions, I would put Dream and Sengoku above both UFC and SF.

Great fight, Ithought Fedor was in trouble in the 1st roung when he was against the cage. I missed the 1st 2 fights hopefully they will be a vid soon. As far as the UFC see goes theirs nobody their that gives Fedor a serious threat (not saying they don't have chance). I'm guessing that Fedor fights Overeem next in DREAM since they traded so many fighters to Strikforce and Silva fights Rodgers. Miller is a great fighter I couldn't really say he was beat by Shields. I thought he was going to choke him out at the end of one of the rounds. I wish they had the one 10 minute and one 5 minute round like DREAM. More fights finish that way.

Name one formidable opponent Fedor has beat in the past couple years. I believe if he fought Lesnar or even Mir he'd have serious problems he has not fought any highly ranked HW's in quite awhile. Rodgers was even doing good and he has virtually no experience.

Anderson Silva would annihilate him and he's a MW.

Fedor has beat nog, but it was no easy fight for him, it was a long grueling three rounds. That's just the way Nog fights.

I thing fedor would definitely be a force in the UFC HW, II don't believe he would dominate in a sense. I mean Fujita almost knocked him out...Fujita????

Brett looking great tonight when looking at the previous Brett Rogers. His sportsmanship after the fight was just disgusting - what a punk. I don't he would beat anyone on the UFC roster he has up there. I am pretty sure that Alistair is on the juice. Fabrico was manhandled in the UFC Bobby LAshley is a threat, once his stand-up improves; Cormier and Bigfoot, not sold on them yet. Definitely top tier but not top ten. IF Carwin ever decides to be a full time fight; that guy will reign.

Steelergar 10:58 PM 11-07-2009
Are you serious? Andre and Tim were the #2 ranked Heavyweights in the world when he fought them. Barnet was #3 before that fell threw. Just because Fedor beats the top guys then they drop in the rankings doesn't he's not fighting the best. He beat Rodgers at his own game, the stand up was his only chance. I believe Rodgers has better stand up the Lesnar and so does Andre. Brock's best chance would be to pin the Combat Sambo champion to the ground. Not Happening! Mir is a fraud, his BJJ is a joke, his mouth is too big, and the only reason why he is in the UFC is because he is friends with Joe Silva the matchmaker. You must think Anderson Silva fights the best in Cote, Leittes and Griffin.

Fabricio manhandled? Didn't he only lose one fight? From a real placed punch on a shoot at that. Overeem on juice? I don't know how you decide that but I'm sure its something Lesnar's never done? Who's Carwin never heard of him?

It is well known that Arlovski has a glass chin, and he beat Werdum. Werdum did some damage to Gabriel and vera, but Vera should not be a HW anyways. Yes, Junior dos Santos MANHANDLED Werdum.

Brett beat AA, jus nasty - glass chin. Brett Punches *hard* not takign that away from him. Fedor is #1 in my books, but I would like to see him in the UFC, against better compitition. When AA and Tim were the champs, the UFC HW division stunk, bad! I dont think Barnett will fight in the states for a long time. This was the second time he was popped for juice. Or he wont be fighting in CA or NV for awhile at least...

I admit it is just my opinion that Alistair is on the juice. Just find it curious why he has refused to fight in the states for two years (where he knows he would get tested). He always cites injuries, but he would be fighting a week later. A miraculous recovery.

I am pretty sure Lesner was on the juice at one point in time as well.

Never heard of Carwin...you're just being silly. It is just my opinion that he would be a great fighter if he trained full time. You make me laugh,:-)

Everybody has a glass chin its a pressure point on you body. The impact on your chin rattles your head in a way that causes a sensory overload resulting in a KO. Another one is the side of the head where Rodgers was hit. I guess he has a glass head.
