Fleece is made from Wool.

Wool burns. Fast.

Hence, Fleece burns fast.

Don't get it near a heat source.

I may be mistaken, but most Fleece (These days) 80-100% Polyester... and Wool does not burn very easily.

Tell that to the 100% Alpaca wool blanket I used to have.

But you're right about polyester. First it starts melting and then it burns.

Guess I better be careful. I almost always smoke in a fleece when it's chilly out, apparently I've been lucky so far.

The fleece jackets he's talking about are all synthetic and they burn up/melt FAST. These things are popular and cheap, but don't ever wear one around the campfire (or, like we've found, while smoking). Wool and cotton are more flame resistant than synthetics used in clothing, but not quite as flame resistant as your skin. You can always check in with those people that do all the fire stuff ( like these http://www.firefootbag.com/faq.html http://www.templeofpoi.com/poi/fire/safety.php ) and they should know - they say cotton, denim, leather, wool, etc, natural materials.

That is why I smoke outside with only my boxers on :-), well at least I used to. Time to hibernate for the winter and wait for the warm spring weather.

It's really funny if he gets the hiccups soon after that initial draw. He blows smoke rings from both ends.:-)

Alright everyone just go out and buy a Carhartt J149 and youll be set. I swear those damn things are fire proof, even the insulation inside. I was smokin a cigar in my friends truck and it wasnt buring even so I stuck it out the window to heat it up a bit and some embers went into my sleeve and burned my forearm but the Carhartt its self was fine :-):-)

Funny and relevant thread. I managed to scorch my fleece at the Phillies parade last Friday. Live and learn.

Never had a problem with the fleece. No holes in mine. My eyelashes have been singed a few times from purging the cigar when it was too short.

The Army issues us hot & cold weather Nomex flight gloves, which are nice, because they are fire resistant, so you don't melt them when you are smoking a nub.
