All Cigar Discussion>New Humidor Setup
Sr Mike 07:14 AM 07-28-2010
I jumped on the opportunity to take this massive humidor cabinet off of the hands of a fellow BOTL. It needed a little bit of finishing work done. Here are some of the specs.
74"T x 48"W x 22"D (actually 18"D due to the 1.5" thick insulation in the back).
It needed seals, I added new door locks, and new handles.

The cooling unit is a Vino Wine Cooler, the exhaust is in the back and it blows air downward, so I cut a hole in the top of the cabinet, added foam seals and placed it up there and out of the way. At first the Vino was only producing room temp air, which was not good. I was concerned that the unit needed freon, this is a closed system.

I opened the unit and found that the unit was mixing the hot exhaust and cool air in the same compartment, separated by removable foam inserts. To fix that, I pulled out the silicone and sealed it all up. Now the unit is keeping the entire cabinet at a perfect 70 degrees.

For humidity, on the bottom shelf you can see the beads I had in my cooler which I bought from Scott a couple of years ago, and a small bowl of water. Under the bottom shelf in the doors below I have a large bowl of water and I just added a 4" fan circulating the air on the bottom of it all because the humidity is higher a couple of degrees on the top shelf holding at 70%, maybe I will use the top shelf for aging. I am still experimenting, I have only had this up and running for about 5 days now, I will have this figured out within the next couple of weeks.

The wife told me I need to get more cigars, as you can see I am lacking. I do have about 15 empty boxes I have collected over the years that I keep inside to help maintain the humidity.

Aaron, thank you brother!!!!

That's awesome. Very nice job fixing it up brother!

My 5 year anniv is coming up and was trying to convince my wife to get me a cab humi as a present... she wont :-) Doesn't _love_ my cigars at all. I may get luck and get some cigars though... :-)

Though the wife did give me the okay, my truck project and root canal are cutting into my cigar budget. I was laughing as I pulled my cigars out of the cooler and put them into this, I consolidated them all down on and this monster looks so bare.

It weighs a whole freaking lot too! Getting it in my Suburban was a bit of a chore, but done rather easily with several of us. Getting it out was simple, I backed up to my porch and hit the brakes hard, it slid right out :-) well almost.

I did back up to my porch and push it out onto the deck, the height the was just right. Took my neighbor and I about 10 minutes to slid it inside the house and set it up.
