This P&S is amazing. My aunt has it. It works very well and takes great pictures. MSRP is $329. Can be had for right around $200. http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Produc...PIX-S9100.html

That is the first step in taking better photos, recognizing the camera is only the tool, a really good photo only comes from a good photographer.

Yoy can take very nice photographs with "regular" cameras. You just have to follow the parameters of that camera. JMH2CW

What do you want to spend and would you consider something besides Nikon?

I'm actually torn between 3 now. The Nikon S9100, S8200 and the Canon XS230 HS. I want $250 or less. Canon and Nikon only.

Very cool Justin. One thing to keep in mind is if you dont need the GPS on to tag stuff I would switch it off especially indoors. It tends to eat up battery. Other than that its an awesome camera.

Aaaaaaanndddddd....I returned it :-)
I give up on P&S cameras. Nothing was "wrong" with the camera. I just have come to the conclusion that I want to be able to have control of the camera. I apparently do not like the auto and program modes. I don't seem to get the same enjoyment.

You can put them on Manual. I know it's not the same, but I take a lot more pics with my P&S.

The ELPH 300 HS does not have any manual mode. I tried to like it.

I was torn between a fisheye and a macro lens. I chose macro because I figured I would get the most use out of it.

Good choice. I would avoid circular fisheye lenses in general. Instead look into a wide angle lens that wont distort the picture immensely. Somewhere in the 14mm-17mm range on the short side would wrk well. Canons 17-40mm ƒ4 is reasonably priced and great quality.

What it comes down to is choosing the lens for what you shoot the most. :-)
