Hey shooters, what would be an affordable, home protection pistol? Don't need a DE or anything, but there have been a few burglaries in our neighborhood lately, and I figure y'all are the ones to ask about this...

Cheap shotgun would be my choice.

Have you shot before? What have you shot? Better yet, what is your shooting history?

I'm 20, 21 in January (when I can purchase a handgun), and I have little shooting experience.

No problem. It's my pleasure. As a second suggestion, may I offer the ZF-1.

I'm no expert, but I bought this gun specifically for home protection. It was cheap enough, came with 2 clips and 2 more with a coupon. So I can now pump 60 rounds into the bad guys
:-)

nothing says home protection better than a pump shotgun loaded w/00 buck...
the racking noise of a pump should retreat most bad guys....if you have to shoot you don't have to worry as much about killing a neighbor as you would if shooting a high powered pistol
:-)

Thanx for the input (and laughs) guys!
:-) Gonna look into the glocks, the S&W and maybe a shotgun, but we'll see.

If you are looking at S&W's, look at the M&P series. I have a M&P 9mm and it is one of the most accurate guns that I own.
Better yet, buy a shotgun, handgun, and an AR
:-)

I agree with the shotgun for home defense, a Mossberg 500 specifically for easy moving around.
As far as handguns go, I am from the revolver school and believe that less is better.
If it jams, squeeze again.
With the nerves and adrenaline involved with a defense situation, I am a big fan of Crimson Trace laser grips for any handgun to avoid missing as best as possible.
I'll agree with the short barrel pump action shotgun reccomendations, altough I would load with #6, because #6 generally won't go through two layers of drywall or won't have enough power left behind it to really damage anyone if it does. 00 buck will go though walls and people at close range.
