Joey Votto signs a new 3 year deal and no one is excited? They have some decent hope with him in the lineup. Now if we can just find some outfielders and some pitching, we could compete for a wild card spot. :-)

I like the signing! Adam, want to bet a 5'er? I say the Reds will make the playoffs...

I'd like it better if it were for 5 yrs, but it is what it is. At least we don't have to worry about arbitration.

My guess is Votto is waiting to see if the Reds can compete for a few more years before he gets stuck. If they stink up the joint, or don't surround him with talent worthy of an MVP, then he will be peacing out in 3 years. I certainly don't think he is destined for the highest bidder when that time comes, but he will definitely be looking for a contender. :-)

I'll bet you a 5'er they don't win the World Series and a 5'er that Stubbs doesn't bat over .300 :-)

I can see that. He said in an interview after the signing that he couldn't see himself playing for any other team "right now", but that he definitely didn't see himself playing for NY or Boston (good news).

Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow. Dontrelle Willis is already in camp. I am anxious to see if he has anything left.

Willis had NOTHING for the Tigers, I would not expect squat, Dan. Anything good is a bonus.

Oh, yeah, it's time for me to get in shape for this thread.

:-)He'll fit right into the Reds rotation, probably fit even better in the bullpen. :-)

CC Sabathia is talking about opting out and the best player in baseball is going to be a free agent after the season. Its too bad the Reds won't make a run at either of them. Good news is they are saying the Cubs are going to be making a serious run at Pujols so we won't miss seeing him multiple times a year. :-)

Not a chance the new owner of the Cubs (Ricketts) will commit $300 million. And even if he did, don't you play the same amount of games Vs the Cubs that you do against the Cards? :-)

That was the point, that the Reds would see him just as many times. I guess I worded it wrong. There are only about 4 logical options for him if he makes it to free-agency, Cubs being one of them. I am not sure any team will be offering up the reported $300 million/10 years he wants, I am guessing $255-260,000,000 for 8 years gets it done. If I were betting, he ends up a Cardinal for the rest of his career but the open market will dictate the price. :-)

I just didn't read it as tongue-in-cheek humor, Adam...I re-read it now and I see exactly what you meant. :-)

The big joke here is that Ricketts and Hendry will not want to commit $300 million over 10 years to a player who will be 41 when the contract expires....so they will offer him $300 million over 5 years. :-)
