Not sure there is much left in him. He needs to drop weight too.

They are hitting up the rehab group lately. There is still talk about Pettitte. He has been working out at home to play this year. Yankees still have a $12M offer on the table.

The Yankees signed Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract. If he makes the Yankees roster he will get $1.5M and with the incentives he can max out at $5.1M.

We are really scraping the bottom of the barrel now!

Last I remembered, Garcia couldn't win a spot in the Mets rotation :-)

Yankees acquired Justin Maxwell from the Nats for Adam Obychev, forget it i'm not even going to try to spell his last name. Not sure where J-Max fits, saw him play a little bit last year. Decent speed/defense, insurance I guess in the event that Jones gets hurt.

Garcia was very solid for the White Sox in 2010. If our bullpen was any help to him, he could have very easily won 17 or 18 games last year.

To make room for Maxwell.

NEW YORK -- A person familiar with the arrangements says Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte plans to announce his retirement Friday at a news conference at Yankee Stadium.

The person spoke to the Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity because the news conference had not yet been announced.

Pettitte has been telling the team since the end of the season that it was likely he wouldn't play in 2011. He became a free agent and has not attempted to negotiate a contract.

His intention to retire first was reported by YES Network's Michael Kay.

The 38-year-old left-hander is 240-138 with a 3.88 ERA n 16 major-league seasons. He excelled in the postseason, setting a major league record for wins by going 19-10 with a 3.83 ERA.

Pettitte's departure leaving a huge hole in the Yankees' rotation, with no proven starters behind CC Sabathia, Phil Hughes and A.J. Burnett.

:-)

AJ better learn how to pitch again....

He couldn't e as bad as he was last year. And that Ian Nova isn't bad, we rrally just need a fifth starter.

:-) We just signed two over the hill pitchers, maybe giving them some 80+ year old competition would step up their game :-)
