There are two different counters that (for some reason) are not in sync. The "lower" counter (1,958,819) is in the left column on the page http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/home.php.

And the "higher" counter (1,997,435) is at the bottom of the page http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/index.php.

That home page drops about 8000 threads.
My guess is that the index page includes banter threads while the counter on the index page does not.
Either that, or the home page doesn't include Tom's posts.
