Well I did pick up my first AR last Thursday. I went for the S&W M&P15 PC
Image
I need to get some sort of sight system on this thing and I want some good iron BUIS and was thinkin of these. The thing is the front picatinny rail is about 1/2" lower than the one on the receiver. Is this normal and will it affect the sights I put on it? One more thing. I want some optic sights but dont know what to get. It will be used mostly for target and varmint shooting to at the most 200 years. Suggestions?

The Troy sights that you have pictured wont work with the set up you have. With that gas block rail system you're going to need a different set of sights. I don't think troy makes a gb mounted sight but I know that Midwest industries does,

There may be other options out there, I'll have a look around

If I go with the sampson Im goin to assume it will line up with any rear sight. Is this correct?

I went with the Troy flip ups and I'm having the problem with the gas block being lower than the rear rail. Trying to find a riser of some sort to bring that front site up....

No problem. If u get one let me know how it is. I may be needing one as well. Are the troy sights worth it? I found a set but they are $250.

I'll say that I love my troy sights ! ! ! For what you have, looks like a 20"+ barrel, I'd just stick with the glass/optics. That is if all you're going to use it for is target and varmint shooting.
With that said, my personal opinion is
always have a good set of iron sights on your rifle! ! !

A friends dad got a stag with idk say a 18" barrel. He had iron sights as well as some kind of red dot or holographic sight. I think for now I just want to do iron sights, learn how to shoot it well with them, then drop the money on something nice

You know it is a good day when you ask your daughter what she wants to do on her 18th birthday and her reply is "Can we go shooting, Dad?"
I must have done at least one thing right.
