to jailbreak - yes

as for the battery, once every second day. Just turn any notifications off you aren't using, turn off wifi when you aren't using it, its constant searching eats battery. Push notifications on email are big on battery usage, and turn your brightness down to where you're happy with it. After i turned off notifications on a bunch of crap i never used, battery lasted a lot longer

Does jailbreaking effect syncing with itunes? I was just wondering if itunes had a way to notice the phone is jailbroken.

Also, where can I dowload the latest version of jailbreak?

Nope, still syncs flawlessly and beautifully - but obviously your jailbroken apps/files wont be copied to your computer - just apple's default stuff as usual

When you jailbreak your iphone you are presented with an app known as cydia - think of it as your new app store for jailbreak things, settings, tweaks, themes, etc. you can still use the app store too, jailbreaking just gives you more customizing

The deed has been done. Now I just need to find which apps I "need".

If you jailbreak your phone, can you restore (un-jailbreak) it later?

I don't think so, I looked. It's 10 or 15 bucks, but it's a one-time cost.
That was the one reason I wanted to jailbreak. Then when I balanced the bullsh1t against the benefit, I decided against it.
It's funny, not too many years ago I'd have been right on top of all this stuff. Now I'm old and lazy and don't want to be bothered. I'd rather take a nap. :-)

theres an app in cydia called MyWi - its 19.99 one time cost, and it creates a wifi hot spot out of your phone. (has a 3 day free trial)
- the free one just keeps track of your usage.

Do you guys in the states have to pay more for tethering or something? Ours just uses our data as normal

In order to add tethering to your iPhone, you have to switch to the new data plans, specifically, the DataPro plan. Before this change, iPhone users on AT&T would pick a voice plan plus a data plan that was $30 a month and that included unlimited data and tiered SMS plans. Voice and SMS prices remain unchanged but AT&T is going to drop the term “unlimited” from its data plan offerings and let users pick between two plans.

  • DataPlus: Includes 200MB of data per month for $15.
  • DataPro: Includes 2GB of data per month for $25. Add $20 if you want tethering.
damn dude that sucks. Here tethering is just part of regular data, of which i have 6gb /month
