Finished Three to Get Deadly and now taking a break from Stephanie Plum and reading the Black Dahlia by James Ellroy. I am having a hard time getting past all the boxing stuff and hoping the detective stuff starts real soon. I enjoy the L.A history stuff since I grew up down in that area. My grandpa had a store in L.A. until the early 30's.

Just finished it. One of the better books I've read this year.

Getting ready to start The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan, a non-fiction piece about survivors of the Dust Bowl. I have wanted to read it ever since I saw Eagan talk about it months ago on Book TV.

Finished up Under the Dome by Stephen King. A good read if you are a King fan, but be prepared for a comittment-over 1000 pages! A typical King story with tons of characters and lots of bad guys. I really enjoyed it.

Now I am reading Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingslover for my book club-not my cup of tea but I will get through it some how.

I used to read everything King wrote, but haven't read anything since Desperation. What is the best of what he's written since then?

Just finished Eye of the World. I felt Jordan's writing improved over the course of this book. Here's hoping that continues over The Great Hunt.

Just started Robert Jordan's "Fire's of Heaven". Again. This is the fifth book in his "Wheel of Time" series. Book 12, "The Gathering Storm" was just released so I am re-reading the series from the beginning. Again. :-)

The series was supposed to be five books, then 8, then 12. The Robert Jordan died shortly after book 11 was published. A new author (Brandon Sanderson) was found to complete the series, and he is committed to finishing it in 14 (he said he could not get it all wrapped up in the 12 comitted to by Jordan).

The reason for my rereading is that it has been so long since book 11 was published (Jordan usually took 2+ years) that it is the only way for me to pick up the very complex plots and characters. I have pretty much reread the entire series for each new book (books average about 800+ pages).

One good thing is that Sanderson has committed to no more than a year between books for 13 and 14.

The best thing is that I can spend a nice afternoon or evening with these books and a fine cigar (or two), and maybe some scotch or tequila. :-)

I'm currently reading Peter Bernstein's The Power of Gold for fun. If anyone here is into economics and finance I recommend picking up any of Mr Bernstein's books.

My next read....I hope it will be 1776.

Merle's door by Ted Kerasote. Just about done with it now. Great book about a guy and his dog. Shows how your dog teaches you what you need to know about living with a dog.
