Picked up a very clean 1978 S&W Combat Masterpiece. Always wanted a revolver, but couldn't justify buying a new one. My Dad told me about the model he was issued while in Strategic Air Command...and even made Marksman first time out. This one is a little newer, but same configuration.
Factory grips are on order.

I've hunted for many years, rifles and shotguns but haven't had many chances to fire pistols. When I went to sign up for my CCW class I noticed they offered a 'Basic Pistol Safety & Shooting' class. I almost didn't sign up for it but I'm really glad I did. In my life I'd estimate the percentage of rounds I've fired from pistols is about 2%. I had no idea how completely wrong I was aiming when using one. So the course turned out to be really helpful from that aspect.
We started with the upper left and went clockwise around, finishing with 2 shots at the center. Each round was 12 shots at 25ft. It was pretty cool to see how everyone improved with each round.

holy hell that is some fast learning! Pistol shooting is no joke. I believe the rule of thumb is something about giving a pistol shooter a rifle and he'll do fine. give a rifle shooter a pistol and he'll have a hard time.
ended up getting a remington 700 ADL 30-06 for my rifle. Threw on a HS Precision stock and a Wyatt DBM so really its a BDL now. Put a Leupold 4-12x40 scope on it and l love it. Shot 15 rounds and had a visible bruise on my shoulder for almost a week. Just ordered a limbsaver slip on recoil bad and a cheek riser as well.
Now I'm debating between the AR10 custom build (probably something along the lines of a 1/10" 20" barrel) vs a M14 or a Sig p226 MK25. I'll probably end up with the AR10 or the Sig. Don't need any of those as I already have the M&P 9mm the AR15 5.56 I built and the 30-06 bolt but I feel like a true battle rifle would be a great addition to have for range days.

Went to a local gun shop that was recommended by more than a few people I know. Husband and wife run the place, not a huge markup and really helpful people all around. Left with this

Don't bother wiping it. Just check for clear chamber and dry fire that bizzo until it's time for bed.

My wife and I just bought the same one. Love the look and feel. Haven't had a chance to take it to the range yet. We went the other day but they weren't open and we had too many other things to do.

Needs more power residue all over the front from firing it.

Nothing like a shoot-house. Had so much fun the last time I did it. And you are absolutely right. Pain is the best way to learn. And I learned a lot.
