I havent tried the compact but have owned or currently owned the full size tactical and standard and for the money I dont think you can go wrong. However it is a design that I think one would have to work at to mess up too.

You'd be surprised. I've had 1911's that were a mess. Where it usually goes wrong is with the extractor and ejector. But those are also easy fixes.

Also, the internet will tell you that 1911's with a barrel shorter than 4" will be trouble. It all depends on the manufacturer. My 4" 1911 has a 2" grouping at 25 yards on a rest…and there is no way I can replicate that free hand.

Some manufacturers don't build their 1911's to mil-spec. The ATI Commander I had needed major work to fit an aftermarket sear/disconnector. The channel they sit in was way too small. Most other 1911's need just minor sanding for the same part…if sanding is needed at all. However, the ATI went bang every time I pulled the trigger (dang stiff one too) and was a very accurate and comfortable gun. And for $450, it was priced right. I sold it because I end up tweaking my guns and it would have cost too much to do what I wanted…due to the out of spec manufacturing.

Picked up a TLR1S

Might stay on the Glock. Might go on the AK

Sexy!

Just built this one to sell.... Trued Rem 700, .223 Bartlien 1-8 chambered for the 75 Amax, obviously threaded for the Suppressor and sitting in an AI 2.0 Stock, Cerakoted in Black
Was very cold this morning but I managed to put 8 rds thru it with a makeshift load that didn't do to bad.

Nice Grendel Shawn, I gave up on mine as it had its limitations at longer ranges but damn accurate for the short game.... Always enjoy seeing your stuff!

Thanks, your builds are always in a class unto themselves.

This Grendel could be finicky. It got a 18" Liberty barrel and the throat seems a little short. Initial dummy rounds have 120 SMK at 2.230 OAL. Chamber is not to tight though. We shall see.

What were your experiences shooting at 600 / 800 / 1000?

Any favorite loads that you remember?

-Shawn

Shawn, I was shooting the 123 Amax & Scenars using IMR 8208 XBR with 28.5grs I had a Saturn Barrel..... Seemed past 500 yrds it just fell on its face where the 6mm's such as the 6BR, BRX, and the 6 Dasher make everything look bad because they are so accurate and easy to tune.

I'd like this to shoot well at 600. The round should be dropping 35-45 feet at 1000. I don't think I'm going to have any real success at 1000.
Cigarcop 04:49 AM 01-20-2014
It will shoot OK Im sure Shawn, but I doubt it will be a 1/2 moa gun at 600 with any consistancy and certainly 1000 would be not even be close.
I also shot some factory ammo from mine with great results but that too fell off past 400.

Wish we lived closer brother!

Anybody know anything about the quality of PSA uppers?

PSA stripped upper receiver or complete upper?
cigarmonkel 06:27 PM 01-20-2014
If your doing a build and getting a stripped upper go with BCM. They have a track record that everyone swears by. I have many BCM parts on my build and have 0 problems with them. I've contacted customer support with questions about parts, availability, shipping and they have always been quick to respond and very professional and very helpful.

BCM is roughly 30-40 bucks more for a stripped upper which isn't much in the long run for a build. PSA is newer and IMO i'd rather spend 30-40 bucks more for a part I KNOW will be good, solid reliable. Nothing against PSA but I'll let the other guys spend their coin building PSA's track record up.

If your going for a complete upper then thats a different story. If you go PSA you will obviously save some money then if you were to go Colt, BCM or any other of the bigger name brands. Money could be used on fun stuff for the build or ammo. I believe Wilson makes the barrels for the PSA upper (where as I would assume) BCM makes their own barrels for their complete uppers. I have a 16" mid length 1/8" BCM barrel and so far, love it. I haven't had it out at any long distances yet. Also, what do you intend for your build to do? General purpose? Distance/bench rest?

PSA is GTG. Don't get a PTAC I've heard hit or miss things about those.

My PSA upper ran just as good as my wife's LMT upper. If it has the CHF barrel even better. Those barrels are made by FHN/FN
sikk50 07:13 PM 01-20-2014
Thanks for the responses guys. I'm looking for a complete upper. I'd be pairing it with a CMMG complete lower I already have. I just can't seem to find any Negetive reviews about PSA uppers, which is somewhat concerning in a weird way lol. Thanks for your quick responses guys

As for use, just general use and coyotes

Andrew. PSAs house brand items are great for the money. Beware, they're slow shippers usually so be patient.

Everything on my AR is PSA except the stripped lower. Only about 100 rounds through it, nothing to complain about.

It took about 2 weeks for mine, order to my house.

Thanks guys! Looks like I'll go ahead and order a PSA upper
