Not a good start for the US. May god bless Tim Howard.
What a 2-0 snoozefest this afternoon.

USA 2 - Mex 0
typical boring US soccer.

I thought it was a decent game, though I think the US is gonna have to take better advantages of the red card if they're gonna make it anywhere in the World Cup. Mexico did a good job of neutralizing them.

I watched it tonight . The wind was ridiculous , took away most long balls and really affected the play . At least we won though .

What did everyone think of the red card to Marquez and yellow card to Howard?
My take? Marquez deserved the red. The challenge itself was normal and acceptable except for the studs up, attempt to injure kick to Howards leg.
The yellow to Howard was a stupid call. The match report said it was for delaying the restart. How do you penalize someone, in that situation, for delaying their own free kick? Especially when the referee was trying to disperse the angry mob. A quick restart was never gonna happen. Puzzling.

I didn't see the game - US v Mexico broadcast here? lol
However, from FIFA interpretations, if Howard was instructed to restart the match, and then dawdled, I can see why, even if there were other problems, he was given the card, although it might have been a dumb call.

I doubt that was the case, Brother. The referee was in the middle of the usual melee after a dirty foul and subsequent red card. While the referee was restoring calm, Howard hobbled away from the group and tossed the ball in pain/frustration. Given the activities, it was a minute or so before any restart was possible.

Howard was shown a yellow card well after the pushing and shoving. He set up for the free kick ran up to the ball and stopped- not when he threw ball after the foul. I though it was a good yellow actually- it was a clear delay of game.

Guus is used to instructing humble TEAMs, he'll have his hands full with Chelsea.
RED to MArquez was well spotted by the ref in a crowd, clearly was giving Howard a kick.
YELLOW to Howard, debatable for me, he was limping around for quite a while, I thought he was delaying due to his knee not working right. Whatever tho. Studs in the knee on a cold night can really have you limping for a while.
Weather looked miserable.

If that were the case then I agree.
I (or maybe those knucklehead announcers) thought it was for his earlier toss of the ball.

He had success with PSV, I better keep my comments to myself, I don't want to be banned for foul language (I hate psv). PSV, Fenerbache, Chelski. What goes for Kuyt goes for Hiddink too, poor choice of teams.

I think that the US's passing is really letting them down. I thought the defence looked SOLID mostly, however I felt that the midfield broke down and went back to parking the bus way too quickly. Good on bradley for his finishes. It was pointed out in maybe the 60th minuteish that having people playing against the best teams and players in the world they're going to be better. Beasley is an example, plays for Rangers plays day in day out. *side note* does anyone find it odd that the officials for these games are always latino?
red card? yes no question led with the studs up against the keeper no looking for the ball.
tims yellow. The official awarded it to him after he ran towards the ball then stopped and backed up, restarted. yellow. solid call.
The defensive clears where horrific, resulted in tim howard getting spiked.
the general, toothlessness of the US to not take advantage of 11 v 10 tells the tale.

Odd? Not at all.
In CONCACAF play with the US, the officials will be either Canadian or Latino. No way around it, really.
(No disrespect intended to the officials from T&T, Jamaica, et. al. but they don't have the experience and toughness to officiate a match like US/Mexico)
