There is nothing the union can do about it. It is in the players contracts. Do you remember Aaron Boone with the Yankees in 2003. He hit's the walk off HR against the Red Sox to send the Yankees to the World Series. That December he is playing basketball and tears up his knee. He violated his contract and the Yankees voided the rest of the contract. Then they traded for A-Roid a month later.

Boone was playing basketball...something along the lines that he wasn't supposed to be doing (skydiving, riding a motorcycle, etc) according to his contract.
