My stepfather used to tell a story about the Gurkha regiment .
They were stealthy ( to say the least ) ... Gurkhas would at night be able to tell a German soldier from a British soldier by feeling their bootlaces ... if you tied your boots wrong you would get your throat slit .
Stepfather was a character himself ... joined the British army in 1939 as a private and finished the war as a full colonel ( said if the war had lasted 18 more months he would have been a general ) .
Not a joke but it bears telling
