Well, maybe I am nuts but heck with the team of the decade.
With 27 championships and an unbelievable 40 appearances in a World Series, they Yankees are not only the team of the decade, they are the team of LIFETIME!!!
Most hate them for that simple reason, they win.
Many hate them because their owners will spend any money it takes to win.
Regardless, they have proven over and over they are winners.
I am just glad I have been a fan of a team for nearly 40 years that allowed me to see tough times and then see them turn around over and over and over again.

Tomorrow would have been painful to watch with Damon also now out.
The Phillies never gave up and just kept coming at them.
Great series....The Yankees were the best team in baseball this year, and they deservedly won the WS.... no shame in losing to that team.....Congrats NYY!...
Looking forward to next year's REMATCH!

Yes indeed.
I believe that photo is Matsui's cap as he "blazed" by the bases. OK, maybe with his bad knees, as he "burned" pitchers is a better thing to say.

It was truly a great series. Neither team ever quit. As I had said earlier, on paper, no doubt the Yankees were the better team. As others said, that doesn't always mean they will win. The Phillies were a worthy opponent to be in that series with the Yankees. They did what every team would like to do that wins a World Series, they were back to defend their title come what may.
In this case, it worked out for the Yankees. I really thought this would drag out to a painful 7 games.

Great series. Great teams. Congrats to the Yankees for a well-deserved win and to the Phillies for putting up a good fight. That was a fun series to watch.
:-)
As for NY being team of the decade? Eh, not really. Yeah they're really good. But team of the decade?

Objectively, who else would you say?
We had the Phillies go to two and win one.
We had Boston go to two and win two.
We had the Yankees go to three and win one. (Actually four and won two but can't really count 2000 as not considered part of this decade)
Along the way, the Yankees had a better win percentage of any other team in the decade.
So.....who would you suggest then if not the Yankees?

Joe,
I wish I was still in the NYC area.
Have gone to a few when I did live there.
What a great experience.

Congratulations to the Yankees. That was a good series and a well deserved win. They kept constant pressure on the Phils and in the end never really faltered. They made very few mistakes for the Phillies to capitalize on.
Last night was electric if you are a Yankees fan, but for us Phillie fans it was just darn frustrating…..lot’s of opportunities, but nobody closing the sale. At times it looked like Ruiz was the only one that made the trip to NY. He really played a hell of a game.
Great thread everybody!
Football season can now officially begin. GO EAGLES!
:-)

Actually 2000 does count as part of the decade since it is 2000-2009.
The Yankees went to 4 WS this decade (00,01,03,09) and won two of them (00,09)
They had more wins than any team in the decade.
They only team that would be a close second would be the Red Sox.

Truly agree.
However, either I misunderstood it in my rapid reading of or the geniuses at ESPN are the ones that are discounting 2000 as part of the decade.

The way I've always heard it was 2000 is a part of this decade, but not a part of the 21st century. 2001 began the 21st century, but 2000 began the 00s decade.
