Wine, Beer, and Spirits>The Bourbon Thread!!
Porch Dweller 06:22 AM 02-28-2025
I was picking up some Four Roses SBS at a local place yesterday. It's relatively new and their selection has not been good in the past, but they've been broadening their stock recently. The owner said she had some Blanton's tucked away if I was interested. I declined and she smiled and said "yeah, I'd pass too." :-) She did say that they were getting three cases of the Elijah Craig 18 Year SB. I didn't enquire further as I know even MSRP is not something I'd pay for it.

I found a stash of 16 bottles of Blantons a few years ago and bought them all because they were $52 a bottle. Sold many of them and now I'm down to one left. I know a lot of bourbon guys rag on it because it not very high proof, but the flavor is one of my favorites. Now, should it ever be more than $50-60 I don't think so. But it's still good stuff.

And BT bottles are only gonna go up because they just lost some of their distillery in a mudslide a few days ago......I'm betting they did it to themselves because the savage market for their bottles had slowed down a bit.

They can vary, Bob, as single barrels do. I have had a couple bangers.

Buffalo Trace is plentiful around here at $29 a bottle, Pete. Crazy that it's so hard to find in some places. I buy the Blanton's if I see it at retail, but only to trade....yeah, too light for me. :-) :-)

That’s the problem. Should I find it at a decent price, do I spend the money on a maybe.

Stopped by the store across the lot from the restaurant I went to last night. They had multiple bottles of Woodford Double Double Oaked. $299. :-)

Last one I bought (last week) and MSRP is now $90. I am not a big fan of Blantons (I prefer higher proof bourbons), but it is good trade bait. I lost count on how many bottles I have in my collection. :-)

I agree with both of you guys, I enjoy the higher proof bourbons more as well, but for a bourbon in the 90s its tough to beat for flavor and smoothness. $90 msrp is ridiculous.

Was on base today and they had KC9 120, WTRB, and JDSBBP all on sale. I'm not passing that up! :-)

A Weller 107 and Evernorth Spirits score. Right by the place we had to go to exchange my friends kayak is a well known liquor store. Walked in and was greeted with a barrel sporting some Evernorth bottles. That’s the Bourbon Junkies company. I’ve been interested in their stuff, but didn’t know they were distributing on this side of the state. Got a taste. Very good stuff. It’s a 7yr old Green River barrel. Talking to the store manager, he told me we just missed their ER12 store pick drop that morning. We happened by there at 10:05AM. So he said he could spare a bottle. Had my pick between Weller SR or Antique. Easy choice there. Grabbed the Evernorth too.

Adding to my post from yesterday. Texted a couple friends who are into bourbon about my pickups and the Eagle Rare store pick. Friend #1 sends the stores FB post showing the line of people who were there early in the morning. Friend #2 texts, “does the fourth guy in line look familiar, fifth guy too?”. A closer look at the pic, it’s my friend and his son.

Nice pickups, Bob. Haven't seen the Evernorth in these parts.

QT and I went to Maize & Mash for dinner last night. I tried the EH Taylor Barrel Proof Batch 13. Really good with heavy vanilla notes, but doesn't compare to Batch 12, which was amazing. :-)

I grabbed a bottle of Clyde May's Special Reserve 6-Year Old. I'd seen it before a few years ago and passed...then never saw it again. So when I saw the single bottle on the shelf I went ahead and grabbed it.

I quite like it. It's 110 proof but pretty damned smooth. Fruit and spice forward with a pleasant finish that lingers. At $62 it's in the realm of WTRB, 4RSBS, OF115, and KC120, and I'd definitely grab another bottle...if I ever see it again.

Haven’t bought much lately. Had a few minutes to kill before my pizza was done, so I hit up my local store. A few things to choose from. James E Pepper, Penelope Rio, the Russel’s stor pick. But ended up grabbing the Dragon’s Milk Bonded. Cracked it open and had a pour. First sip I wasn’t so sure, but the second sip has me intrigued. Reminds me of the chocolate covered cherries my dad would get at Xmas. It’s definitely different in a good way. Nice change of pace.

Oh, but that Russell's store pick, Bob...... :-)

I've been intrigued by Prideful Goat for a while but never pulled the trigger. Last month an organization called Live Stay Project offered a single barrel with profits going towards suicide prevention. I figured that was a good reason to try it. It's MGP juice, and the organization claims it's the first 8 year single barrel PG has ever done.

It's good, some sweetness and grain on the palate. We'll see how it opens up.

I have a feeling I’ll pick up the Russell’s pick next month if there’s any left.
