Sports>New York Mets 2013 Banter
icehog3 07:43 PM 08-25-2013
It was close until the 9th, Mac, Mets bullpen just done blowed up.

At least we can both root for the Mets from here on out. :-)

You'd think the Mets would have been courteous enough to win at least one game while I was in the hospital. Those selfish bastiges.

Confirmed: Matt Harvey has a partially torn UCL in his throwing elbow. He could be facing Tommy John surgery which would require a minimum of a 12 month recovery. At the very least, he's now headed to the DL. There goes our ace. :-) :-) :-)

There goes any chance we had of finished in 3rd as well. :-) :-)

Mets drop one to the Phillies 2-1. Another tough loss and I swear the offense went on strike. :-) :-)

Nah Mac....it was Cliff Lee who went on "strike"....7 to be exact!....this one wasn't over til the bitter end though....

With Wright and Harvey on the shelf...the season (what's left of it) just got a ton dimmer. :-) :-) :-)

There's not much to be interested in as a Phillies fan these days...but I'm interested in the next three games. :-)
kelmac07 08:15 AM 08-27-2013
That's it...kick a man when he's down. :-)

Wow....the only thing dimmer is what...a "black hole"?!?:-)

That's a sad, sad story about Matt Harvey. Hopefully he comes through Tommy John's real well.
I was looking at his stats last night. 26 starts. An ERA under 2.30. A whip around .9, which hasn't happened to a pitcher under the age of 24 for eons, and there's only about 1/2 dozen guys that have EVER put a number up like that in the live ball era. Big names.
And his W/L is 9/5.
I would go so far as to venture a guess that these numbers indicate that the Mets batting is not all that good. :-)

Again...more kicking a man when he's down. :-)

Earlier there were reports of a NL team claiming Marlon Byrd.
Now there are reports that Byrd and Buck have been traded to the Pirates.

And this helps the Mets how? Doesn't address any pitching woes (rotation or bullpen) and gives away our most productive bat. This helps the Pirates as they've been looking for a run producing right fielder. Alderson was asleep at the wheel on this one. Another BONEHEAD MOVE made my Mets executives. :-) :-) :-)

The player to be named later better be pitching help...and a good one!!!

I know Byrd and Buck weren't long term Mets...but COME ON MAN...get something in return for them.

No wonder we suck!!!

Great move by the Pirates, as they make a serious push towards the playoffs. I'm rooting for them. :-)

Mac, News flash, this season is over!

This move gives you a middle infield prospect.
Middle infield is another spot your team is notoriously thin.
Let's face it, Tejada isn't the player the Mets hoped he'd be, and if Murphy can't hit .320 he's useless too.
You're losing Byrd for 30 games, as somebody was likely to offer him mor than the Mets this offseason.
kelmac07 02:26 PM 08-27-2013
I got it Dom. Ever heard of pride?? Oh, I forgot, you're a Yankees fan. Mets need to, at least, play for some pride down the stretch. 2006 seems so damn long ago.

Alderson has made absolutely ZERO MOVES all year to help improve our extremely thin pitching staff (and horrendous bullpen) and with Harvey possibly gone next year (pending surgery)...then what? Great...another middle infielder prospect. I look forward to reading about Herrera's partial UCL tear in 2016.

Mets two biggest areas that need IMMEDIATE help...Pitching & Outfield...guess they are just gonna take care of themselves. :-) :-) :-)
jonumberone 02:29 PM 08-27-2013
Too bad they traded Buck, maybe he could've consoled you.

Mac, nobody was giving up a stud prospect for those 2 players. :-)
If they were, the Mets would've traded them at the deadline!

I'm not talking a stud...how about a decent pitcher period??? Wouldn't be hard to improve what we're throwing out there every day now. Besides Harvey, Gee (of late) and Wheeler (of late) who else has pitched worth a damn this year? NO ONE!!! At least, a decent set-up man/long reliever...some form of bullpen help.

Looking on the bright side...in 10 days I'll be eating your FANTASTIC food and cannoli cookies. :-) :-) :-)
