Samardzija threw off the mound Monday at Fitch Park, well ahead of the first workout for pitchers and catchers, which is scheduled for Thursday. He's been in Arizona for a few weeks along with Carlos Zambrano, who also tuned up with an early-bird session Monday. Samardzija, Zambrano, Tom Gorzelanny, Sean Marshall and others all decided they'd had enough of the cold weather up north and it was time to get to work.
Anybody have any thoughts on Samardzija? I'm not so sure he will help the rotation, but at the looks of it right now, he is working his butt off to get the 5th spot..
He was inconsistent last year, but I think he'd make a solid #5 if he works his butt off this spring.

Next year is here!
Early season schedule is very favorable. Only 6 out of the first 38 games are against teams with winning records.
That can't be good.

I guess I can't hold that grudge against Tom now. Cubbies got blown out today as well. Looks like Chicago and Cincy are sharing a room in the cellar of the NLC right now.

You know it's going to be a bad year when we go up 3-0 in the first inning and lose 16-5.

Zambrano's ERA is now a lofty 54.00.

Its one game. Cubs will be fine this year guys. I don't see anyone running away with the NL central.

I am surprised Pinella didn't go out there and kick his pitcher in the family jewels. He should have at least pulled him and brought in his guy that was warmed up in the bullpen.

At least y'all have a better record than the Reds. It's still embarrassing to see the Bucs in second place in the Central division...
