Mets tried to come back last night, but the effort fell short as we lost 3-2 to the Braves.

Mets fall to the Braves, 6-1. Now only a 1/2 game out from being in last place in the NL East.

That's true, but they'll always be last place in my heart! :-)

Round #1 to the Mets. Beat the Phillies tonight, 4-1. Seems this is the only team we can beat on a consistent basis this year. :-)

Round #2 to the Phillies, as they beat the Mets tonight, 7-2. Still hanging into a half game lead before we climb into the NL East cellar. :-)

Round #3 to the Mets, as we beat the Phillies this afternoon, 6-5. Keep that 1.5 game lead and outta the NL East cellar (for now). :-)

Mets play see-saw with the Marlins all day before p*ssing away the lead and losing 9-6. Half game outta the cellar again.

Is there still time to get those 90 wins?

Glad he's hitting for you...didn't hit a lick for us.

Mets beat the Nats tonight, 4-3. Move into a tie for 3rd place in the NL East with the Marlins at 72-76. A .500 season this year would be a HUGE success.

Yeah I could say the same about Curtis Granderson.

Oh wait . . . no, I can't. :-)

Here's the question though, do you want a .500 season?
As a fan, the obvious answer is yes.
But will the Mets finishing strong, coming in at .500 or above, convince Sandy and the Wilpons that they are close, and therefore not make any major additions?
Sandy thought this was a 90 win team. If they finish with 81 or 82, I can see him rationalizing the return of Harvey, Duda's emergence, D'arnaud's second half, and Mejia in the bullpen from the start, are enough to get them to the playoffs.
If I were a Met fan, I would be rooting for the wheels to come off, and to slide back down in the standings. The last thing you want to do is give Sandy and the Wilpons a reason to spend less money!

Dom has a point. His point would be better if the Mets had had any wheels ON to come OFF lately (see the Rod Sux, e.g.), but who are we Yankee fans to talk?

Regardless of how they finish the season...the Wilpons will not spend. Over the past five years (besides Wright & Granderson) who have they spent a significant amount of money on?
