Battle of Astapor wad done so cheaply. Pissed me off. So much more they could have done with the material they had. Good but could have been better.

Yeah, but jason, YOU KNOW how much you hate all these storylines getting 2 minutes a week. A big battle
could have just made that worse. She got in, she kicked ass, she got out. After her time in that magician's
dungeon, I don't think she was playin' this time around. IN FACT, after watching 3&4 back to back, THAT
whole story was the only one I gave a crap about. OF course Jamie having his hand assed to him was good.
But when I was done watching those two, I thought, 'well, that was an utter waste of two hours." Good,
but not great by any means. I knew she was understanding his a55 from the first word. Any time a man curses
a woman like that in another language, SHE ALWAYS understands somehow. It's the law of TV drama.

Why have they abandoned the most important story line of the season?
For weeks now, all I want to know is, what did Podrick do to those whores?

Skipped one week. Last episode at the end, it said "in two weeks".

They decided not to air an episode on Memorial Day weekend due to the poorer ratings history of doing so.
This Sunday will be Episode 9

That's a relief. I am far behind, though, just watched 5&6 last night. I had popped in 7&8,
and they said "previously on GOT..." and I saw all kinds of stuff that I had not SEEN, and
it was only then I realized I was further behind than I thought. Dug around a bit and found
the disc with 5&6 on it and popped it in. 4 freaking shows behind.

While I hate it too, it makes more sense for the overall story line with the continued rise of Dany. Her taking on the Starks just doesn't hold the same draw of her vs the Lannisters.

That story line followed the book pretty closely ... and was pretty well done given the time constraints, although honestly, I thought the season would have ended on that note.

For the most part, yes the series does follow the books. However there are some differences. The characters names were changed for the Queen of the North. In the book it is Jeyne, in the series it is Talisa. Also, parts of the 3rd book were thrown in at the end of Season 2, and Season 3 is covering about 2/3 of Book 3, with Season 4 covering the rest (that was previous confirmed by the producers). I suspect this is also to give Martin time to finish the series, however, he has already told the producers how the books will end, just in case something happens to him.
The Red Wedding was very brutal and even shocked me. It was more bloody than in the book.
The last two episodes of the season have been similar in their design. The the death of Ned, the epic battle of Blackwater, the Red Wedding, all have taken place in the next to last episode, with the season finale leaving the viewers in a cliffhanger of sort, more eager for the next season to get here.
