That is the kind of stuff I deal with on a regular basis, one cannot describe the smell, but they will never forget it either. Wrong way to treat a cyst, but the reactions do sound about right. After dealing with a few it becomes a little easier to tolerate, but not much.

what is the proper way to deal with one?, not that I ever want to have to.

The whole thing should be cut out, not split open then squeezed, the cyst can refill with that puss. Also it could be rather deep and home treatment gives easy way to an infection. Many times it is not just puss, but there could be cancer involved with a cyst too. At our office we remove and process them to read under microscopes.

I had to google cyst earlier and that did come up but I thought I had searched the wrong thing. cutting it it sounds painful..
