I used to do LAN parties for Duke Nukem 3D. Started off playing Castle Wolfenstein and Doom. Once I discovered Quake's free online play I was hooked. As 3D video cards and OpenGL versions came out it really took off. I dabbled with Q2, Q3, and UT, but never really liked them as much as Quake. The 3.3.1.2 Mod CTF was my favorite, but I did do play some Rocket Arena, Clan Arena, and such. My buddy and I started a clan called G4T (or GAT, which was our way of making fun of inner-city slang for firearms). Each member took on an alias/nickname in the clan theme. That is where I got my current handle .357 from. I have been using it for online forums and the like for about 15 years.

I still know of a couple Quake 1 servers if anyone wants to geek out sometime, although I haven't tried it out on my Windows 7 Pro laptop just yet.

I also loved Civ II, Civ III, and most of the RTSG Command & Conquer versions.

The only thing I DID NOT LIKE about the big online gigs was having to always patch up to whatever version
was going at that time. With my boss and I connecting over the phone line, as long as neither of us upgraded
everything stayed exactly the same. And I do not miss the lost weekends trying to figure out why we couldn't
play one game or another on the phone, the first star trek shooter comes to mind. I bought it casue he was a
trekkie, and he could NEVER link up with me. DUKE was great, cause we both were tech enough to make the level
editor work, and a little reading here and there and we were designing levels and trading back and forth and laughing
as we shot each other up on our own home-made levels.

Another thing I will never forget, in UNREAL TOURNEY I used to name my character A Little Mouse, or His Own
Stupid Self. That way when I would kill him, it would throw up an announcement that he was killed by a little mouse.
And sometimes when he killed me it would sometimes say Daniel killed "His Own Stupid-a$$ Self" I tried to think of
clever ways to piss him off. And he liked to let his 4 or 7 year old take the controls a lot of the time, and when I would
get lit up, he would say that it was his kid that was wearing me out.

Used to play a lot of FPS but now I'm mostly into strategy & RPGs--Civ IV, DragonAge and Mass Effect. Just started back in after taking about 18 months off PC games after playing through ME 3 or 4 times in a row. DragonAge is awesome. :-)

Was playing WOW but shut down my account a while back as I was getting bored of it. My wife still plays once in a while and I might get back into it over the summer.

I stopped playing FPS when they became team oriented. I had to stop playing this cool star wars inspiored game
cause I had to tell this guy to breach a door, the rest of my team to fan out, I had to nanny them all the freaking
way and learn so many keys and commands to do so. Once it was no longer bang bang you're dead, sorry, you lost me.

I remember years ago setting up conference rooms for presentations, then firing up Duke, Doom, or Quake to "test" the projector... :-)
