I'm glad DE sticks don't appeal to me. I'd feel like a fool paying that much money for a small short filler cigar.

See, there's the rub. They're not for everyone. But for guys like me, I have yet to try a stick that I like as much as the LP9 or the Rat, in any price range.
If you take two sticks of the same quality, but slightly different blends, and one is priced a few dollars more, and you prefer the one priced a few dollars more, there are two ways to look at it. One is to say "both should be priced the same, and no matter what, I'll take the less expensive one because it's a better deal." The other is to say, "I like the way the more expensive one tastes, I'll take that one, even though it's a bit more."
Alternatively, perhaps you actually enjoy the cheaper ones every bit as much, in which case, cool. Smoke those!
Personally, I feel that LPs are good quality sticks, and perhaps are priced a couple bucks more per stick than other sticks of the same pedigree, but since no one else has a stick I like more, at either less or more cost I'll pay the going rate for the Ligas, and just smoke fewer cigars.

Hello guys.
Reading the posts I have to say that there are good points being made all around. The sticks are expensive for w 70/30 Long/Med Filler. At the same time, they carry the classic LP taste and effort, which has a value as well.
BUT HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING : In all of the discussions on Asylum about the PF, everyone behaved and acted like True Gentleman. Nobody put anyone down or acted with anger. I am so appreciative for this because - thats what premium cigars are all about - Smoking and sharing and camaraderie. Great to hear different views. I think you'll are going to be impressed with these bad boys. And forget the traditional mixed filler crap on your tongue, the guys at the factory found a solution to that.
In any case, so many great new products from the IPCPR, from many countries and many factories. Its going to be another "Sampling Year".
ENJOY and smoke in moderation.
Very best,
JD

I really enjoyed the Papas Fritas I had at the show. While I think it's a tad overpriced I enjoyed it and it smoked like a 100% long filler. Packaging is very nice on it also.
This is coming from a guy that isn't goo goo ga ga over the traditional #9 line...

JD care to explain this a little more?

MikePD.
I would love to explain the solution to the system that they created to reduce the short filler escape. But to be 100% honest, it was not my work product. Saka and Nicholas Melillo figured it out and I have not been brought into the loop just yet.
They are going to teach me on the next trip in, God willing. I would hate to lie and try to take credit for this system or act like I understand it fully at this point.
I will look into it and report back as much info as allowed.
Best,
JD

Initial reviews of this stick are very positive. Now the wait/hunt begins.

Solid JD. Sounds like it'll be a good smoke, just like the others in the LP line....

All good in the hood over here. Just busy as sh*t which is a good problem.
So any hints of what's in store for this years Pig? Figured I would ask since November is about the time those hit shelves too.

John you sound like you're the Moderator of the DE Forum! You have so
much 'insider knowledge'!
:-) But you're right... They have released
a pig every year so far. Hopefully its the 'Undercrown Pig'!

Nah just a self admitted Liga/Tat Ho!
:-):-) Plus since there may be two new releases from DE in November I have to start figuring out who is getting shafted at Christmas so I have proper funds to stock up.

Im stoked to finally find a DE smoke in this size. Hope I can find a couple to try. Short fill long fill who cares if its good tobacco and smokes well. I am assuming this is not little pieces of chop being put in a sandwich as other makers have done.

Ranger ... there has been a lot written about the 70/30 Long filler-Mixed Filler blend and how to keep the tobacco from releasing out of the cap.

Im a big fan of Illusiones Cuchillos Cubanos and i believe those use a 60/40 mix. I use a punch on them just to be on the safe side and you would never think twice about them being a mixed filler smoke. Looking forward to giving the PF a try if i can find some. Those would make some great winter time smokes up here in B-lo.
