Wine, Beer, and Spirits>Patron - Are my taste buds out of wack?
dwoodward 12:56 PM 01-28-2012
Glad to see I'm not going crazy. Patron must be one of those, you like it, or you don't things, just like anything else.

I'll have to try a couple of the bottles mentioned here, the selection here has recently skyrocketed with the new wine & spirits at a nearby grocery store. They will order in anything you want as well, so no excuses. lol

This stuff is my go to for a killer margarita. You can pick it up for around $20 a bottle here.

Patron benefits from aggressive product placement (like in True Blood) so it is recognized readily. The packaging also draws the eye. I've found with tequila more often than with whisky, you are paying for the packaging not what's inside the bottle.

Had a few fingers of Patron last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. :-)

There is a WHOLE LOT of liquor you are paying for the packaging. But what's really wrong with that? Couple extra bucks on a premium price bottle so it looks nice, fine by me.

By the way I don't think the Patron bottle is anything special or that they are marketing a "cool" bottle.

Check this bottle

And the Tequila is fantastic too!

Glad you found something that hits your tastebone. My current faves are 7 Leguas and 1921 - both are brands not mentioned alot. Given that they are both reasonably priced, I'm happy. I did find that El Tesoro is not my thing, although I would never say that on the Blue Agave forum for fear of public tar and feathering...

I had a sample of Penca Azul once (repo I think). Had a "minty" flavour to it if I remember correctly. Worked well in the flavour profile.

Just a decent moderately priced sipping one, I wait until it goes on a big sale at my local liquor joint, then use a coupon and get the big 1.75 liter for just over $40, much lower than the usual price. There are high end tequilas I enjoy much more for sipping, but price dictates that those are consumed a little more conservatively.

I like Patron in margaritas, but I usually do not sip Tequila, so that could be the difference.

For me, Patron is middle of the pack in terms of price. I do think it is better than Cuervo and the stuff they usually use in margaritas.

I prefer Partida and Milagro Single Barrell, but it is more expensive than Patron.

I have had Cazadore a couple of times and it is good and a couple of dollars cheaper than Patron.

I usually get Patron in a three pack at Costco when they have them and it comes out to around $30-35 a bottle, which is much better than Bevmo and the supermarket.

I can't remember. I enjoyed the Penca Azul lineup, maybe a bit too much as I don't remember any flavors :-)

Very nice bottles though, just wish they were a bit cheaper.

I would say Partida Anejo is #1 for me right now. At least around me, it is 1.5 to 2x the price of Patron.

I grabbed some 50 ml bottlea of Casa Noble last week to give it a try. It has been recommended a couple of times. They had the reposado and anejo.

Yeah - at that price I'd be a buyer as well...

It is actually on sale and thus less than Patron here pretty often. The last time I bought it was at Twin Liquors. 2 bottles for $65.

Another BADASS tequila with super limited distribution is Cavalino. Super inexpensive and the reposado is DAMN near as good as Partida. You have to close to mexico to get it. If you ever see it, buy it. Chincey bottle and packaging, but do not be fooled.
