While we're fishing for free stuff, I'd like a box of VSGs.

You didn't. Don't sweat it.
Arguments over kitty litter's effectiveness or lack thereof have been going on for as long as people have been using it to humidify cigars, and will likely continue until they either stop making it or stop making cigars.

I seem to remember a quote from Scott. If i get it wrong it's my bad not his
"Kitty litter beads are only good for one thing, soaking up cat urine. And it aint really all that good for that."

They quit making most of the silica kitty litter cause cats won't pee in it.
:-)
I suppose that leaves more available for cigars.

I have a question on the Shilala beads - Do the Shilala beads not need water or if they do how often do you need to recharge them?
I searched on the forum and the website and am guessing that overtime they lose humidity and to recharge you place a wet sponge into a pan overnight, remove and repeat till you get back to your prefered RH.
Also I purchased Heartfelt beads before I knew about Shilala beads - Can they both work in the humidor or will the extra water you add to the Heartfelt beads affect the Shilala beads?

I have had to put a shot glass of distilled water in my humi a couple of times in two years, and it's been a pretty long time since I had to.

If it makes people feel better, or justified for paying over $30/lb for beads, great. I'm practical and don't care about brand names. I wouldn't trust thousands of Cubans which I could never afford to replace with something that doesn't work.
Each to their own I suppose.

So which beads do you use?
