The first week or so it's a real physical battle, fighting the urge for nicotine. After that, it starts to become more mental and a matter of breaking habits.

It ain't easy, but it's a battle you can win. And one worth winning. :-)
When I quit cigs I began drinking coffee. Still drink too much of that stuff, and it's been a lonnng time since I've lit up a cigarette. :-)

I'm not sure that the accelerated flushing of the nicotine (the vitamin C cure) is going to prevent you from going crazy. Your body is used to that drug and that's what keeps you in a good mood, so going off of it gradually might be easier.
When I quit my 30 cigarettes a day habit, last year, I went on the patches for a month (I cut short to the recommended program and accelerated the steps a little bit). This prevented me from wanting to kill someone (figuratively, if it must be specified) while allowing me to concentrate on getting rid of the habit of lighting up every 10 minutes.
When I felt a craving that couldn't be quenched, I "smoked" (without lighting it) a stick of cinnamon.
Although it's true that the first weeks are the worst, it was hard for me for about 6 to 8 months, so you just have to hang in there. Of course, YMMV and all that stuff.
Good luck.

Good luck DC! You can do it brother. You have a strong support group here and I'm sure at home. Think about the extra years you can spend with your family.

Thanks everyone!

55 hours smoke free and no I don't have a support system at home.. my wife lacks basic skills such as turning the ****ing lights off or shutting and locking a door after her. She smokes in the garage and I have to go after to her close the door right cause all the ****ing smoke coming in the house. ()#@($@#

I did notice that the smoke was "stinky" though, slightly gross and made me gag.

Hopefully I'll stop being angry soon I pretty much yelled at everyone I could yesterday. :-)

It's good to focus on how nasty that smoke was. That'll be a big help.
Congratulations, brother. You're over the hump. Now you get to become a pain in the ass reformed smoker. :-)

You'll also be able to smell someone burning a cigarette from a mile away. I remember being able to smell someone smoking in their car in front of me while I was on the bike. It's amazing that you can still smell it at 65 mph.

Just wanted to say I love you guys, I've been reading the comments here over and over throughout the day as motivation. Today I seemed pretty hyper and anxious too.

95 hours without a cigarette, :-)!!!

In 1 hour I will hit my 4 day mark.
