General Discussion>It's Official, WI Passed Conceal & Carry
lilwing88 03:18 PM 06-29-2011
Well, if it does pass, which I'm sure it will.... eventually, I'd go with the Ruger .380 LCP. Get the optional laser grip too. Great compact gun that can tuck nicely in your waist band.

Most life threatening situations where you'll have time to draw, will be from the hip and without much time to aim. You also have to factor in that most encounters will be within a 3-5 ft distance. Something small, lightweight, powerful and easy to shoot will be your best friend.

For home-defense, I recommend The Judge by Ruger.

i carry a sig p238, but i think a ruger lcp would be a bit better. if you want something with more firepower i would say any glock sub-compact.

I carry a S&W M&P Compact, S&W M&P Pro, Sig, Kimber, S&W 500 depending on the situation. What is best hard to tell however whatever you carry you need to be able to use it effectively and safely.

I'm a revolver fan and am rarely without my S&W 642 airweight

Thanks.

I've since changed out the grips for the Crimson Trace laser ones.

For me, I pray to never need it, but if I do, I am positive it will go bang. I love the simplicity of a wheel gun.

The class is only four hours long, not sure how long it takes to actually get the permit.

in FL once you take a class & fill out all the paperwork requirements, it takes about 90 days to get your CWP (good for 7 yrs)

30-90 days in TN to get your permit in the mail. It varies wildly. Some report getting it in 2 weeks, others 3 months. Even when they took the class the same day.

pa is no more than 45 days by law, some townships use the entire 45, some issue on the spot. Philly likes to ignore the laws and usually takes longer, screw them

In Michigan, if the county gun board does not approve your application within 30 of applying then they have to issue a temporary permit. Assuming they haven't found a legitimate reason to deny you. I don't know how often they comply, but it can a looong time to get a permit in the big counties down state.

So many decisions, I'm teetering between the CZ 2075 RAMI and the Ruger SR9c, granted this is just based on internet investigation only, I've yet to hold either, but I do have Fri & Sat off, so shopping is on the calendar!

Strap an AR to your back and open carry
:-) M&P is my choice :-)

Got the CC permit in the mail last week, pretty excited about that. Decided on the Ruger SR9c in the 9mm, all black. Now I just gotta save up for the gun.

Then I need to learn about ammo, seems there's more to learn there than there is about the gun.

Just remember that the "best gun for ccw" is the one you shoot best with.

Pulling it out quickly while disabling safety and acquiring your target under one second.. learn how to do this in your sleep, muscle memory is very important. Most people make the mistake of asking for opinions on what the "best gun" would be, then rarely shoot with it. If you can't do this motion quickly, chances are you will be disarmed and your firearm will be used against you.

Way back in my rookie days I practiced at home with an unloaded gun and mounted a laser pointer to it. Walk around the house, focus on an object, aim, pull the trigger and hold it steady while checking whether the laser is where you intended to aim at.

Mostly I carry a PX4 with PDX-1 .40 S&W 165gr JHP using a Comp-Tac Minotaur IWB holster. While I'm on the bike or at home, safety is on, otherwise it's off. I don't concealed carry my FNP .45, Walther P99, Glock 20 why? Because I got accustomed with the PX4 for quick draw, target acquirement and accuracy the most so I stuck with it. The others I shoot for fun. There is no "best gun", they all serve the same purpose - pull the trigger to save your life.

Generally, once you carry and you understand that what you have on you can end someone's life, you'll act completely different while being armed and out in the public as well. Where I used to neg back at annoying people, I now simply walk away, no matter how bad the insults. Or go ahead and push and shove me, I'll still walk away as quick as possible without saying a word.. because I know there's many stupid people out there and imho nobody deserves to die because they started ****.. we all say and do stupid things, so first things first, save your life and someone else's by avoiding conflict altogether. Your firearm is the absolute last resort.. guns are not "cool", they're a deadly tool not to be played with.

:-)

I hope you'll never have to use it. Best wishes and good luck my friend.

P.S.: If you get pulled over by a cop and you have to inform them that you're carrying, don't say "I have a gun!". Say "Officer, I have a concealed carry permit and at the moment I'm carrying" while keeping your hands where the officer can see them. :-)
