I CERTAINLY DON'T have a fetish for the equine, but after almost a dozen trips to NOLA for shooting, I had YET
to produce a decent horse and buggy or mule and buggy shot. So I KILLED it and me this past weekend, went
to Nashville for a few hours of shooting, "to keep me from driving to New Orleans".....the trip is only half as far.
Instead I did both. Ugh. Nashville and back, 6 hours, plus another three shooting. New Orleans and back?
12 hours, plus 4 hours shooting. So yeah, I am a dumba55.

Nonetheless, enjoy the white mule.

Clearly you're mistaken Brad. That's a unicorn.

Going to post this shot despite it's drawbacks....I was trying to preserve the sun and flare in it, and it didn't turn out
so well. This car is known to me from the area, I see it several times a year parked SOMEWHERE in the French Quarter,
but on this day, it was parked WAY down to the back of the Quarter off Rampart Street, owing to a "Satchmo-Fest"
Happening down by the river where it is usually parked. Guess he didn't want it scratched or barfed on or stolen.
I have others I like more, but this one is cool.

Provencher Bridge Winnipeg. Museum of Human Rights behind. (This is the view form Promenade Bistro - worth a visit). 2 minutes earlier the pylons were all glowing gold - I missed it.

It really is usually a matter of minutes or seconds, Neil, getting the right light. Only bothers me when I miss it.
I think of the things I did before that that were a waste of time and scold myself. Plus its HARD to be in
place for the best light. Especially in the morning. But that's how you become better at taking photos, you make
ALL these mistakes and you hope to only make each one once. Well, except for me. I prefer to make them all
half a dozen times.

Brad

I like this shot, to me you caught the sun just about right. My only critique would be the left side of the shot is a little dark but overall it's a good pic.
But what do I know I'm an amateur and my tastes differ from yours.

Its more just a sad twist of fate when snap-shooting into the sun. I was just walking
around and happened upon it....Without a reflector (or fill flash I guess) there is no real way
to GET this shot in perfect exposure, and manipulation in Photoshop only goes so far when you
try to recover information in a dark area. I guess I should have used the low-powered burst of
flash, but I really don't use it much. Once I re-exposed the shot for the CAR and not the sun disc,
it was a little better.

Here are a couple recent ones I pulled off my camera. First is my daughter from July 4, 2014. The other is from the same day - just a shot of some grasses planted along the back of our house that I liked. Both were shot with a cheap gray market Canon f1.8 50mm prime lens.

Got home from vacation last night, I have 2766 pictures to sift through (taken between two people). I'll post some up when I find the time to go through those :-)

The one of your daughter is great! The emphasis (rule of thirds is helping you here) is on the main subject and there isn't any clutter in the background, it is well exposed and focused. Good photos are made with these simple rules, nice work.

Thanks! It was a great overcast day for outdoor photos. I have to admit that the framing in the open area of the tree branches in the background was a happy accident, but I'll take credit for it anyway :-)
