The fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex (although this was probably a juvenile one, it was still impressive):

Alright all you photography guys out there I need some help with a camera...
I am buying a new camera this week or next for personal reasons not for a job or anything like that otherwise I wouldn't be asking for help!

I am looking for something mid level, something that I will not grow out of in a year or two like your standard point and shoots, something that will take good pictures, wifi connected or something that has the option for a wifi adapter, I would think high mega pixels would be key but not sure and honestly it doesn't have to shoot video Although I guess that would be a bonus. Looking to spend around $500 but that is negotiable can be less or more if needed.

Any help would greatly be appreciated...I will try and check this page every day but if it's something I really shouldn't miss out on please PM me!

Thanks,
Taki

Are you looking for DSLR or what? I recently got a Canon G1x and it's great. It's got a sensor almost as big as a crop dslr. They can be had used for $500 and less.

I would say yes on the DSLR, is there any good spots to find a used one? It's been probably since college (6-8 yrs) since I used an actual camera so the terminology I'm not up to date on. After doing some initial research, I hear Canon is a very reliable name and brand (I do like their products had one in the past) but I also hear they are very easy to use and work which would be good because my wife is very technically challenged.

Started my Christmas shopping early.
I had some cash put away for a trip that happened without me,:-) and the money was burning a hole in my pocket :-)
My wife is out every day taking pictures.I think this Cannon is just what she needs?
The hard part is to keep it stashed away until Christmas.

What are some good lenses for cigar photography? If I am lucky something I can also use other generic shooting.

Look for something that can clearly focus to a point as close to the subject as possible. For a good close-up, you need a lens that lets you focus clearly as close to the subject as possible. Personally I like a lens that can get down to under a foot away from the subject for this purpose. A smaller focal length lens, say 50mm or less that is designed to be a macro lens should work.

Also, taking great shots takes patience and quite a bit of practice. When I'm out shooting my eyes are everywhere; I'm looking at everyone and everything and judging whether or not, based on experience, if this scene or that one would make a worthwhile photo.
