Cello on or off?
American v. Japanese?
CC v. NC?
Aged v. Fresh?
Day v. Night?
Luxury v. Sports Car?
Hamburger v. Filet Mignon?
Cigarettes v. Cigars?

oh yeah, and Mac v. PC?

There will always be opinions. That is why there are options. Those on one side will piss at those on the other.
Note in that photo he is alone and note the contrast to the line to get into the Apple event.:-)

Word on the street is Apple will announce a tablet running OS X , presumably the new mac pro, at the June event.

Should have just done that in the first place.

Rumor is more than just on the street.

About the pic...

The site http://defectivebydesign.org speaks out about DRM.

What is DRM?
http://www.defectivebydesign.org/what_is_drm (long read)

Nutshell:
Big Media describe DRM as Digital Rights Management. However, since its purpose is to restrict you the user, it is more accurate to describe DRM as Digital Restrictions Management. DRM Technology can restricts users’ access to movies, music, literature and software, indeed all forms of digital data. Unfree software implementing DRM technology is simply a prison in which users can be put to deprive them of the rights that the law would otherwise allow them.

Big Media hope that DRM will deliver to them what their political lobbying to change copyright law never has: they aim to turn our every interaction with a published work into a transaction, abolishing fair use and the commons, and making copyright effectively last forever. They will say that you accepted DRM and willingly surrendered your rights. That you did so under duress, they will call irrelevant.

I'm not claiming Microsoft doesn't use DRM technology, however, I thought it was funny that this organization was protesting the launch of the iPAD based upon Apple's embracing of DRM technology in this product.

"no free software" is certainly not true of osx, and isn't even true on ipad/ipod
"no installing apps from the web" could be a reasonable statement about ipad/ipod only, but not apple (os x) in general
"no sharing music or books" and "we can remotely disable..." both refer to DRM restrictions on media - but you can purchase DRM-free mp3s on itunes...

so I stand by my :-)

I'll give you a peice of advice...

There's always going to be a 'next thing' when it comes to technology, and with the way technology is advancing, the time it takes to get the the 'next thing' is going to get shorter and shorter.

Just pick something :-) It'll be outdated before you get it home regardless of what you buy. :-)

They are making a dual-core i7? Why bother?

The Mac Pro's are will have dual 6-core gulftowns(i7 980X). Now that's more my style.

Generally I agree with this but the Macbook Pro is late in it's product cycle. This is a time when it would behoove the buyer to wait a month or two.

I agree. If you know the new one is coming out within the next 90 days, you should wait. Besides if I did just buy it now I'd be complaining about how I didn't wait when the new one comes out.

advice for you folks regardless of wether you wait or not.

95% of you would be better off with a slightly faster dual core processor than a slightly slower quad for the same money. MOST programs don't know what to do with quad and you only end up using two cores anyway. Plus its more power and more heat :-).

(I DO use the quad cores in my desktop quite frequently... but thats only because I'm a photoshop junkie.)
