Wine, Beer, and Spirits>The Bourbon Thread!!
stearns 08:38 AM 06-21-2021
Had a very interesting whiskey on Saturday, a local place Leopold Brothers designed and built their own three chamber still, which apparently was popular pre-prohibition but hasn't been used in the last 50 years. They also grew their own rye that's a type that would have been used back then, and tried to replicate how things would have tasted. They hosted an open house (with access to the distiller and the still) for the release after being completely closed for the last year and a half, selling pours/bottles of the three chamber rye and giving free samples of everything else they make (mostly flavored stuff but a few nice bourbons and ryes). The whiskey was definitely worth $15 to try, I didn't bite on the $250 bottle but still really cool nonetheless. Visibly oily, coated your mouth in lavender and honey, some apple in there too, long finish for bottled in bond, if they open again to visitors I'll be going back to try to get another pour

I grabbed a bottle of that about a month or so ago but I haven't cracked it open yet.

I'm not a big Dickel fan, Greg. The taste on the palate is good, but I couldn't get past the finish... Flintstone's Vitamins. Hope you like it better than I!

Had A Pour Last Nite. I See What You Mean About The Finish. Had It Neat. Taste Profile Was Good, Sweet With Some Caramel. May Try With A Few Ice Cubes Next Time. Still Trying To Find My Favorite, Brother! Thanks For Your Thoughts!:-):-)

I am no expert, but if we have similar palates and I can always make recommendations Brother. Sounds like a winner. What proof is yours, the review you linked said the single barrels range from 84 to 103 proof. I can't even imagine drinking an 84 proof whiskey unless I mixed it with some 130 proof whiskey. :-) :-)

I am sure Ben can chime in here as well as some others.

Knob Creek Single Barrel 120 proof
Early Times Bottled in Bond
EH Taylor Small Batch

Or for a measly 10 bucks more

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof
Ezra Brooks Barrel Strength
Old Forester 1920

OGD 114 is a great sleeper, and 101 is my "everyday" go to. Weekends, that's another story :-)

Tonight I have my eye on a brand new bottle of Old Ezra or possibly hanging out with Col. Taylor.
