Any 1911 fans here have a Delta Elite 10mm, new or original release? I'm curious to know how it shoots compared to say a G20 or 29.

You could most likely check on the glock forum. Lots of 1911 fans there and a 1911 sub-forum. I'm sure someone has owned both

I've owned a Delta Elite, and nowadays have a Glock model 20. I believe that the Glock soaks up recoil better in 10mm than the 1911 design, but neither has ever been unpleasant to shoot.
My main reason for having a 10mm handgun is for carry in places with predatory animals bigger than humans. Gotta say I feel better armed with the 15 +1 rounds a Model 20 carries. Also feel less anxious about bumping around the woods with a super tough tenifer finish instead of bluing or even shiny stainless.
Also, the Glock will likely handle a lot more rounds of hot ammo than a Delta would without issues but that's a moot point to me.

I'm about to "pull the trigger"
:-) on getting a new pistol for bear protection. (I've been carring my Glock 22 in 40 S&W.) I'm working as an assistant hunting guide in Southeast Alaska. I keep changing my mind between 45 and 10mm. Actually I was all set to buy the 10mm but then the guy I work with got the 45 and I thought it would be nice if the crap hit the fan, if we had the same ammo and mags. Thoughts?

The whole article is great but you could scroll down to the "large animal" section.

You have more power with the 10mm. And I'm pretty sure the G20 can take a barrel conversion to 40S&W round. Also a 15 round mag, 1 in the chamber is a good thing too, and its a 10mm

What do you all think about the H&K P7? I have never owned one, but my buddy is selling one and after holding it, I really want it and plan on buying it.

.460 S&W mag. I have one and love it! I can do 7" groups at 100 yds open sites and it packs plenty of punch!

You have to consider that in a panic situation you may have trouble with follow up shots. These super magnums like the .500, .460 and .454 may jump right out of your hand if you are firing off a quick shot. Better to be pumping in more lower powered rounds on target.

OK, I realize it's not a pistol, but for stopping power and quick follow up shots...I'm just saying!

If I was guiding in Alaska I would carry a stubby 12 Gauge with slugs slung on my back, I am a pretty good shot with a pistol but when I am sharting down both legs I might not be very accurate

I have heard alot of guides carrying flares and flare guns, supposedly scares the hell outta bears and they run right off.
