Does anyone know if the Macallan S 1988 21yo 54%alc was aged in sherry oak? I found a bottle here- https://www.lfw.co.uk/acatalog/Macallan.html

Ardbeg is my favorite brand. Any bottle will do. Like JW for casual drinking.

Afaik it's a Bourbon hogshead... so, no Sherry.

Thank you Sir. I don't think I have ever had scotch from bourbon hogshead. I assume quite different?

Most Whiskys are stored in Bourbon hogsheads... so, I'm sure you had one.

The difference is simple: Sherry casks gives you aromas of dried fruits etc...; Bourbon gives you more of the vanilla notes, in most cases the wood is also more intensive.

Yes indeed!

I am a big fan of Scotch blends. I find them to be just as complex as Single Malts, if not more so, and much more affordable in most cases.

My two, go to scotch blends are, Johnnie Walker Black and Teacher's Highland Cream, in that order. They are simply outstanding and very affordable.

I also enjoy and love, Johnnie Walker Gold (for me the Blue is way overrated) and Grant's 15yo.

When I can splurge a bit my absolute favorite at this time is Dewar's 18yo.

One of the very best blends I have ever had the chance to savor, on two occasions, is Chivas Regal 25yo. It is a most amazing scotch, in my top five of all time. The big problem with this, is that it is very hard to come by and when you do find a bottle its will cost you $300 +++.

Black is my everyday but I occasionally buy a bottle of blue. Sooo smooth. Will check out the Dewars 18. Used to do the dew before the black!! I will look for the Chivas 25 sounds good.

The Dewar's 18 is just amazing, but very hard to find! It's not too expensive but not cheap at about $80 for a bottle. The Chivas 25 is beyond explanation, it's one of those that you can only understand once you tried it. It is not cheap, at $300 plus a bottle.

Some blended scotches are quite nice, but compared to single malts they are not on the same level. Personally, I would not compare the two. I personally prefer single malts. As stated many times, drink what you enjoy most and have a good time. Chivas 12 was not bad, had it the other day with a Brickhouse Toro cigar.

Supernova is really nice... and if you like it peaty you should try to get the Octomore.... which has much more peat than the Supernova.

Just had a glass of The Glenrothes 1991 with an AF 858. This has to be the smoothest, best tasting Single Malt I have ever had.

I have heard a lot of bad things about this bottle. However, I don't let myself get sucked into negative comments as taste is subjective. Unless, of course, everyone claiming something tastes completely foul.
