Another good game by both teams...Eager comes back to bite the hand that drafted him. Better play by both goalies and both defenses. Happy the Hawks came out on top. Off to Philly to hear some Kate Smith and play some more good hockey.

That was a great game!

Great game tonight, much better than game 1. Even though they lost, I am very happy with how the Flyers played overall. I can't wait for the series shift to Philly.

Wachovia should be rockin', Joel.

Have the flyers been called for a penalty yet? I know they commit about 1 every 2 or 3 minutes, but nothing gets called. I missed most of periods 1 and 2 tonight so maybe they actually got called for something?
Philly is Detroit this year it seems.

Seemed to be a better game by both teams, at least defensively. That 2nd goal by Eager looked pretty weak, IDK if the goalie was screened slightly or not. The Hawks seemed to hang on for this one, I did not like their play in the 3rd.
But being up 2-0, I can't complain!
GO HAWKS!

Great 2 games. Looks like there won't be a Hossa curse this year. He has been great for the Hawks. Let's see how it goes in Philly.

It was actually a pretty wicked wrister that Eager put right past the D-man's foot, so I doubt Leighton got much of a look at it. Went past his ear, Eager has a better shot than people think.

Leighton on Eager's goal:

Everybody take a deep breath and stop the whining about the non-calls!
:-)
:-) The Flyers know they can't let him/them camp out in front of the net for as long as him/they want. IMO, the Flyers are doing exactly what they need to do.
Players that camp out in front of the net have been getting slashed, crosschecked, etc. for a long long time. It's always been a part of the game. I realize the league has started calling some of that tighter in recent years, but they've continued to allow more aggression in front of the net than anywhere else on the ice. The Flyers are pushing that envelope each game to see how far they can take it. IMHO, there are, and should be two unwritten standards for penalties; those in front of the net and those elsewhere on the ice.
It could also be an East/West Conference thing. The competing for territory in the slot seems more commonplace in the Eastern Conference, as is cycling around the boards (meaning chip in, and battle for possession via cycling - not cycling passes per se). It seems the West doesn't play those styles as much and it's more of a transition game. Again, I don't watch a ton of Western Conference games, so I could be wrong.

Congrats to the Hawks on the win....let's hope they can keep it up in Philly. Really enjoyed watching the defense control both sides of the puck.

I was actually being somewhat "tongue in cheek", Joel. As a player, i miss the days when D-men could defend that area in front of the net. And Pronger is one of the best at it. It's just too bad for the Flyers that he can't play 60 minutes a game.

I would have guessed you felt that way.

Ain't that the truth, no matter whose team he's on. Laviolette may try though!
:-)
Coburn has done an admirable job being their 2nd big tough defenseman, but he doesn't compare to Pronger (he did look very good last night though).
icehog3 07:53 PM 06-01-2010
I agree, I thought Coburn looked excellent last night....must be nice to have two big defensemen. I think the Hawks should have hung on to Wiesnewski, he would have looked good paired up with Sopel.
yourchoice 08:57 PM 06-01-2010
I think the Hawks have enough depth at D as it is!
Although he had a solid season this year, Coburn can be frustrating during the regular season (especially last year (08-09), when I thought he was only average). But it seems he picks it up during the post season every year.

did i see a different game than the rest of you???
i thought philly dominated the hawks or played even with them for all but 38 seconds.
pulled a rabbit out of their hat again...good for them.
go hawks

You didn't see a different game (or two) than I, Derrek. I thought Philly outplayed the Hawks in periods 1 and 2 of Game 1, and periods 1 and 3 of Game 2.
Fortunately for the Hawks, Niemi let in one less goal than the Flyers' goalies in each game.

I saw it the same way. Niemi won them game 2 IMO.
