It's absolutely incredible what this phone does. If someone said 10 years ago a phone would do these this stuff, I'd have looked at them like they were crazy.
Scott,
I will be in Long Island on 6/15 when you can pre-order.
I found an Apple store about 20 minutes from my hotel.
I give you one guess where I will be found after work hours are done that day.:-)
Hopefully I can order it there to pick up in my local Florida store on the 24th.
I thought of online ordering but heck if I will wait for it to be shipped.

I'm just gonna be happy with OS4 on my 3GS for now. I've bought way too many iphones this year, anyways. :-)

When I click, it shows a 32GB 3GS for $199. (As well os others.)
My contract doesn't expire until 2/2011 (we signed up 2/2009), but my plan is $99/mo. Or at least was until they dropped prices.

If your contract is up in 2/2011, chances are you can upgrade in 2010 as they usually allow that about three months before the contract expires.
Go to your AT&T account and take note of when they allow you to upgrade.
If it is in 2010, you are in. Anyone with an upgrade available in 2010 will be able to get this new iPhone.

just announced.

AT&T is going to make an incredibly generous upgrade offer. If your contract expires at any time in 2010, you can upgrade to the iPhone 4. You can get it up to six months early."

Me neither. I am due for an upgrade 8/2010 but I cannot find any reference to the iPhone 4 upgrade when I search my AT&T account...

I searched too but not fearing as they announced it to the world on TV, in the news.
Not one newscast I saw on the intro of the new phone that did not state at the end that AT&T was allowing anyone up for an upgrade any time this year to buy this new one.

From one release:
If you're an AT&T customer, go to the AT&T wireless site, login, and click on "Check Upgrade Options" to see for yourself. If you bought the iPhone last June on the cheapest plan with AT&T, you can now get the subsidized price on the new one Steve Jobs will announce today

I should have about $12.50 saved in my piggy bank by next February, will this be enough by that time?

This should help answer the upgrade question.
This is the online chat I just had with AT&T.
Note that I know for a fact I am not due for an upgrade until October as my contract expires in January.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Sahar Guy'

Sahar Guy: Hello Mr. Machin.
you: Hi
Sahar Guy: I will be glad to assist you.
you: BTW, I am referring to the new iPhone 4 to be released.
Sahar Guy: Can you please verify the last four digits of your social security number for security purposes?
you: XXXX
Sahar Guy: Thank you.
Sahar Guy: You are eligible for an upgrade, you will be able to get the new Iphone on 06/24 online or in At&T stores.
you: Thank you. Can you verify for friends, while I recognize each situation is different, what has been announced in the media that anyone eligible for an upgrade any time in 2010 can now get the new iPhone?
Sahar Guy: If you are eligible for an upgrade you can get the phone for $199 or $299, if you want to buy the full without a contract it is $599 to $699, the early upgrade is $399 to $499.
you: If you are eligible now or at any time in 2010? Many channels locally were stating when iPhone announced that if as an example, have an upgrade in November of this year, AT&T is allowing you to get the new iPhone for same cost as new customer with a new contract.
you: Allowing you to get it now when available on 6/24 that is.
Sahar Guy: That is right, on 06/24 you can get the Iphone, you can also preorder the phone on 06/15.
you: Thanks. You have been helpful.

Make sure you guys are renewing not just signing a new contract. Word is they slipped in so very expensive data plan changes...

Not necessarily more expensive, it is just that the unlimited data plan is going away. If I recall correctly, the new data plans are 200Mb for $15/mo and 2G for $25/mo with $10/G overage. I believe that something like 98% of iPhone users don't go over 2G per month.

QUESTION : If I am upgrading from an iPhone to an iPhone 4, will I need to subscribe to one of the new data plans AT&T announced last week, or can I still keep the unlimited plan I had with my previous iPhone?
ANSWER : Siegel If you want to keep the $30 unlimited data plan, you can.

Right, but the new ones may be cheaper for you is what I was trying to get at. And by going away, I meant no one can sign up for it anymore.

Ok, just wanted to clarify that the unlimited plan is not going away completely for prior iphone users who are upgrading.
